College Football: Houston Cougars -7 over Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (-110), 3:00 pm ET

This afternoon, the Houston Cougars will square off with the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. Louisiana comes in at 6-6 and Houston at 7-5.

I have no problem taking Houston in this one, even with the spread up to a touchdown now. Louisiana is a defense-minded team, but missing a key linebacker. Houston also has a strong offense led by QB Clayton Tune, who has thrown for 37 TDs this season. Houston’s season was supposed to have been built around a ferocious defense, but it has been too generous this season. Still, I expect that defense to look strong against a depleted Ragin’ Cajun offense. For that reason, backing the Cougars will be the play.

NHL pick today: Winnipeg Jets vs Washington Capitals – Over 6 goals (-115), 7:07 pm ET

On paper, both teams have been good this season at keeping the puck out of their own net, but considering this is the second game in 24 hours, we should see a good amount of offense. The Jets have a ton of skilled players who can score goals, while Alex Ovechkin is still on the hunt for his next goal that will give him sole possession of 2nd place on the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring list. The last time these 2 teams met, they combined to score 7 goals, and that was just over 2 weeks ago. For that reason, expect a similar result tonight and back the over.

NBA pick today: Orlando Magic -7 over San Antonio Spurs (-110), 7:10 pm ET

The Magic have been playing well, with 7 wins from their last 10 games. During that stretch, the team ranks 7th in the NBA in net offensive and defensive ratings. The Spurs are just 28th in that category.

Over those 10 games, the Magic have utilized the length of their team well, allowing the 6th-fewest points in the paint. With the visitors 24th in the NBA in 3-point percentage during that stretch, it is tough to see how they will be able to space the floor tonight. As a result of that, backing the Magic to pick up a dominant home win tonight will be the play.

NBA pick today: Denver Nuggets -4.5 over Portland Trail Blazers (-110), 9:10 pm ET

The Nuggets have won 3 of the last 4 meeting between the sides and will be confident they can improve on their 10-3 home record here. They have gotten themselves to the top of the conference in large part due to their offense, which ranks 3rd in offensive rating this season.

On the other side, the Trail Blazers are in the bottom 10 of the league in defensive rating, so expect the hosts to do damage here. Over the last 10 games, the Trail Blazers have allowed the 2nd most points in the paint while the Nuggets are 2nd in scoring in that category. Look for Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets to pound the ball inside and put together an efficient scoring night, making them worth a play tonight to cover.
