Amazingly enough, both the French Open men’s and women’s singles events are entirely on schedule heading into Friday – despite all kinds of rain throughout the first 5 days of the tournament. That means 3rd-round action is ready to get underway, headlined by Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek.  Let’s take a look at the French Open best bets to be made on the Day 6 schedule.

Ben Shelton +1.5 sets over Felix Auger-Aliassime (-130)

It’s safe to say that Ben Shelton loves the big stage. Still in the very early stages of his career, the 21-year-old American has already advanced to the Australian Open quarterfinals (2022) and the US Open semis (2023). Shelton may be up to similar tricks at Roland Garros, where he has advanced past Hugo Gaston and Kei Nishikori without too much trouble. Felix Auger-Aliassime is no slouch of an opponent, but the Canadian is wildly inconsistent. He is prone to playing poor service games out of the blue – and those can be killers against a big server like Shelton. I think Shelton has a good chance to win this one outright as an underdog; at the very least he should take it to 5 sets.

Ons Jabeur ML over Leylah Fernandez (-145)

Ons Jabeur has already cashed for me once during this event and I’m going right back to the well on Friday. This is a battle between Grand Slam runner-ups, but Jabeur has much more experience. She has been to 3 major finals and has generally been on the scene a lot longer than Leylah Fernandez. The Tunisian should be trusted to a much greater extent in this situation. Jabeur has by no means been at her best in 2024, but she is looking good in Paris with a pair of straight-set wins in rounds 1 and 2. She just beat Fernandez last month on the clay courts of Madrid; there is no reason to think anything will change at a slam and on a slower surface that is probably more favorable for Jabeur.

Sofia Kenin +1.5 games over Clara Tauson (-115)

Sofia Kenin was a winner for us in round 1; with 2 victories now under her belt, it’s even easier to have faith in the former Australian Open champion and French Open runner-up. After all, Kenin went into Roland Garros with basically zero confidence — her 2024 campaign being one to forget through 4 months. Now she has a ton of confidence. The American has scored impressive victories over Laura Siegemund and Caroline Garcia, winning her last 4 sets by scorelines of 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3. She got off the court very quickly on Thursday afternoon, while Clara Tauson will have no rest after battling through a difficult 3-setter against Jelena Ostapenko. Kenin has great value to win outright, but you can also go with the game spread if you want to be a bit safer.
