If you love baseball, then you’ll love today’s slate as games begin at 12:05 PM in Detroit and go all day until Sunday Night Baseball at Fenway Park between the Mets and Red Sox. Minnesota Twins ML (-150) over Chicago White Sox
Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
Get the brooms ready because the Twins have the opportunity to sweep the White Sox and increase their lead in the AL Central. Minnesota teed off on Lance Lynn on Friday night and then had a much closer matchup on Saturday that ended with a 1-run win against Dylan Cease. To get the 3-game sweep, the Twins must beat Lucas Giolito today. Giolito’s name has been thrown around in trade talks frequently and it’s possible this could be his last outing in a White Sox uniform. Unfortunately for him, this game will be played in Minnesota, so not only is he not in front of his fans for a possible goodbye, but he is also atrocious on the road. In 10 starts in Chicago, Giolito has a 2.72 ERA and has limited hitters to a .188 batting average. However, in 10 starts on the road, Giolito has a 5.74 ERA, a 1.556 WHIP and is allowing a .272 batting average and an .891 OPS. In his last 3 road starts, Giolito has surrendered 15 runs, 20 hits and 8 walks in 15.2 innings.
I’m still convinced that Bailey Ober could be the next big thing, literally and figuratively. At 6’9”, Ober is one of the tallest players in the game right now. He also has a 2.74 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP in 15 starts which rounds out one of the most talented starting rotations in baseball. Ober made his first start of the second half of the season in Seattle and hit a rocky start as he allowed 3 first-inning runs, but he settled in nicely and proceeded to throw 5 scoreless innings after that. Ober is backed by a Twins lineup that has started the second half with some momentum as they rank 1st in wRC+, 1st in slugging percentage and 2nd in OPS in the last week and a half. Between Giolito’s road struggles and Minnesota’s hot bats, I’m expecting the brooms to come out and for the Twins to sweep the series.
