The Detroit Lions always seem to have a solid roster of talented players but have failed to deliver the past couple of years. Will 2020 be any different for Detroit? With the loss of cornerback Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles, let’s how the Detroit defense will hold up without one of their star players.
Let’s see if the Lions can raise back to the top as Pickswise takes a look at each game-by-game and predicts the outcome for the Detroit Lions this upcoming season.
Week 1: vs. Chicago Bears
QB Nick Foles should get a nice warmup game in as he picks apart the Lions secondary. Loss
Week 2: @ Green Bay Packers
An early road trip to Green Bay as Detroit will need everything and more to compete with the Packers in week two. Loss
Week 3: @ Arizona Cardinals
A season ago, the Lions had their lead collapsed in the 4th quarter against the Cardinals. QB Kyler Murray will improve especially with new WR Hopkins. Loss
Week 4: vs. New Orleans Saints
A very rough start to the regular season as the Lions cannot find any type of success. Loss
Week 5: BYE
Week 6: @ Jacksonville Jaguars
The week five bye week comes at a perfect time as the Lions have more than enough time to take down a winnable Jaguars team. Win
Week 7: @ Atlanta Falcons
Loving the upset here as the Falcons defense has been one of the worst in the past years. Any team should be able to score. Win
Week 8: vs. Indianapolis Colts
A three-game winning streak is in reach for the Lions, however, a veteran QB in Rivers and a strong defensive front leads to that stopping. Loss
Week 9: @ Minnesota Vikings
One of the best home teams in the NFL. It’s going to be quite the challenge to take down Cousins and Cooks. Loss
Week 10: vs. Washington Redskins
Dwayne Haskins did not have a promising rookie year and the offensive line did not get any better. Win
Week 11: @ Carolina Panthers
QB Matthew Stafford loves to show off the arm throughout the season and should against the Panthers in week 11. I love this matchup for Detroit. Win
Week 12: vs. Houston Texans
Even with the loss of Hopkins, the Texans still have a solid offense and defense which should be able to get an ugly win over Detroit. Loss
Week 13: @ Chicago Bears
Playing in the cold is never fun as Detroit is out of its element right here. The Bears’ defense shines once again. Loss
Week 14: vs. Green Bay Packers
Can the Lions spoil a potential playoff spot for the Green Bay Packers? Nope. Loss
Week 15: @ Tennessee Titans
A game that looks good on paper for the Lions, until the game starts and Derrick Henry runs wild. Loss
Week 16: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Along with the Packers, the Buccaneers should also be in a close playoff race for a better position. Brady strikes once again. Loss
Week 17: vs Minnesota Vikings
Not exactly how the Lions planned out, but they finish the season on a six-game losing streak as Dalvin Cook has another 100-yard game. Loss
Taking an early look at the 2020 Detroit Lions season, I have them finishing with a 4-12 record. In 2019 they finished with a 3-12-1 record and finished last in the division. In 2020 I expect them to stay in the last place spot for pretty much the whole season.
