Unfortunately football season is done but basketball and hockey are in full swing and baseball is (hopefully) right around the corner. It’s a lot, and we’re grateful for it. There are some big contests coming up, which always create some big public sides. Let’s take a look at where the public money is going as bettors once again try to beat the ‘books, with the Grizzlies leading the way on Sunday.
NBA: Grizzlies -11 @ Rockets
The Grizzlies have far surpassed all expectations this season, and they’ve become one of the public’s favorite teams. Every year there are a few NBA teams that bettors latch onto and ride seemingly every game, and the Grizzlies are quickly becoming one of those squads. A total of 85 percent of the bets and 93 percent of the public money are laying the points with them on Sunday, per DraftKings’ internal numbers shared with us.
If there’s one thing the public isn’t afraid to do, it’s lay double digits with a team that they like. This is also probably a fade of the Rockets as well, who have lost 12 in a row. Be sure to check out our free picks on the side and total for every NBA game today.
NBA: Cavaliers -4.5 vs Raptors
This one is interesting to see, since the Cavs have been struggling recently. Cleveland has lost six of their past seven, but bettors are going right back to them here. A total of 71 percent of the bets and 92 percent of the public money are taking the Cavs as a modest home favorite over Toronto on Sunday.
The gap in those two percentages indicates the large volume bets have been on Cleveland as well. To be fair it’s not like the Raptors have been playing well either, as Toronto is coming off back to back losses to the Magic and Pistons. I’ve got this game as part of my Sunday NBA mega parlay (+1255), so you won’t want to miss it!
NCAAB: #24 Iowa @ #20 Illinois over 154.5
Shifting our attention from pro hoops to college hoops now. We have a highly anticipated battle here between two ranked teams on the final day of the regular season. And there’s nothing the public loves more than a good over. Bettors will be rooting for plenty of excitement in this Big Ten showdown, as 62 percent of the bets and 92 percent of the public money are on the over 154.5.
Once again, the gap in those two percentages indicates that there have been some sizable wagers made on the over here. Iowa has one of the best offenses in the country and they like to play fast, so the public is usually going to gravitate toward the over for their games. NHL: Sharks @ Ducks over 5.5
Wrapping things up with some hockey now. See what I mean about the public and their overs? Bettors lean toward the over in NHL games on a nightly basis, and after 7 of 8 games on Saturday went over the total they’re back for more. A total of 93 percent of the bets and 95 percent of the public money are on the over here for the slate’s nightcap.
At least 63 percent of the bets were on the over for every game on the ice on Sunday. Bettors were also pounding the over for Anaheim’s most recent game against Las Vegas, and there ended up being nine goals scored in that one.
