It’s that special time of year when most of the major sports are in action. It’s a lot, and we’re grateful for it. There are plenty of crucial contests coming up, which always attract some big public sides. Let’s take a look at where the public money is going as bettors once again try to beat the ‘books, with the Rams leading the way on Monday.
NFL: Rams -6.5 vs Seahawks
We have some Tuesday Night Football is here. COVID-19 has caused chaos with the NFL schedule, but on the bright side we’re getting an extra couple standalone games tonight. That always means big betting volume for the sportsbooks, and big public sides. In the NFC West edition of this Tuesday doubleheader, bettors favor the Rams. A total 79 percent of the bets and 69 percent of the public money are laying the points with Los Angeles over the Seahawks, per DraftKings’ internal numbers shared with us.
The spread is now at a full -7 at most shops. Los Angeles’ big primetime win over the Cardinals last week was clearly enough to get everyone to hop back on the bandwagon. Be sure to check out the same game parlay I posted for this game at +1457 odds!
NFL: Eagles -6.5 vs Washington
In the other Tuesday night game, the Eagles aren’t as big of a public side, but this is still interesting and worth talking about. Only 52 percent of the bets but 73 percent of the public money are on the Eagles here, also as a favorite of about a touchdown. This one is noteworthy because of the gap in those two percentages.
Roughly half of the bet tickets are actually on Washington, but nearly three quarters of the handle is on Philly. That means the Eagles have been taking most of the large volume bets. It appears the whales don’t have much confidence in Garrett Gilbert. We’ve got a three-star best bet on the total here, so make sure to check out our full game preview.
NFL: Packers -7.5 vs Browns
DraftKings has also given us an early peek at a few of the standalone games for Week 16. And it looks like a very heavy public side is brewing for one of the Saturday games in Green Bay. A total of 85 percent of the bets and 89 percent of the public money are taking the Packers as a heavy favorite over the Browns.
The public just saw the Browns get embarrassed at home by the Raiders in a standalone spot, so this one isn’t too surprising. Cleveland should get back a good amount of the guys they were missing against Las Vegas, but bettors aren’t willing to give them too much benefit of the doubt.
NBA: Timberwolves @ Mavericks 0ver 212.5
Turning our attention to the NBA now. Nothing the public loves more than a good over. Even when a star player like Luka Doncic is out, the public still wants to root for points. And that’s exactly the case here for this matchup between the Timberwolves and Mavericks. Doncic remains out for this one, but 81 percent of the bets and 73 percent of the public money are on the over 212.5 here.
It seems like the public is excited about Anthony Edwards and this improving Minnesota offense. The T-Wolves have won four in a row, scoring at least 110 points in all four of those games. We agree with the public on this one; we’re on the over, as well.
NBA: Suns -7.5 @ Lakers
My how quickly things change. If you would’ve asked anyone at the beginning of the year, they would’ve said the Lakers would be a heavy public side. Things have gone downhill fast for Los Angeles, and bettors are now lining up to fade them. A total of 69 percent of the bets and 90 percent of the public money are laying it with the Suns as a large road favorite over LeBron James here.
Once again, that means there have been some large volume bets on Phoenix as well. The Lakers have struggled mightily at times this season, and the Suns just got back Devin Booker. That being said, I have the Lakers money line as part of my Tuesday NBA Mega Parlay (+1491 odds!)
