With the Masters coming and going last week, the stage now belongs to the major American sports. This new week begins with a sizable slate of games across the NBA, NHL, and MLB. Let’s take a look at where the public money has gone so far.
NBA: Denver Nuggets -4 over Golden State Warriors
Per DraftKings, the public is all over the Denver Nuggets as they prepare to visit the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. A bloated 94 percent of the handle and 80 percent of the bets are backing Denver to cover the -4 spread. There appears to be plenty of value on the money line (-165), with 86 percent of the handle and 71 percent of the wagers picking the Nuggets to win outright.
NBA: San Antonio Spurs ML over Orlando Magic
Another popular play is on the San Antonio Spurs to win and cover on the road against the Orlando Magic. San Antonio is getting 90 percent of the handle and 82 percent of the wagers on the -230 money line. Punters are also happily giving the -6 points, as the Spurs are inspiring 85 percent of the money and 71 percent of the wagers ATS.
MLB: Houston Astros -1.5 over Detroit Tigers
On the baseball diamond, bettors really like the Houston Astros to easily take care of the visiting Detroit Tigers. A ridiculous 97 percent of the money and 94 percent of the bets are banking on Houston to cover the -1.5 run line. The public is also loving the -250 money line; 83 percent of the money and 91 percent of the wagers are tipping the Astros to win straight up.
MLB: San Diego Padres ML over Pittsburgh Pirates
The high-powered San Diego Padres have been a popular play throughout the first couple of weeks this season and bettors are not about to get off the bandwagon—at least not on Monday. In their road game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Padres are drawing 92 percent of the handle and 82 percent of the bets on the -230 money line. The public is just as eager to give the -1.5 run line spread; 90 percent of the money and 86 percent of the wagers are going in that direction.
Although we are not overly optimistic about Houston’s chances, San Diego is one of our favorite MLB picks of the day. Yu Darvish threw the ball well his last time out, striking out seven Giants and allowing just one run in 6.0 innings. He should have the pitching edge over Pittsburgh’s Trevor Cahill.
NHL: Winnipeg Jets ML over Ottawa Senators
Bettors’ favorite NHL play of the day is on the Winnipeg Jets in their road game against the Ottawa Senators. Winnipeg on the -190 money line is getting 95 percent of the handle and 84 percent of the bets. Punters are nowhere near as enthusiastic about the -1.5 puck line; although 74 percent of the wagers are on the Jets, 54 percent of the money is on the Senators +1.5.
We like the Jets to cover the -1.5 spread. They have won three in a row and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Ottawa has lost four in a row and is 3-5-2 in its last 10. Matt Murray is expected to make his first start in net for Ottawa since March 10 and he has been anything but stellar this year with a 3.84 goals-against average and .880 save percentage.
