We have plenty of MLB games to report, so there is a lot to pore over despite most sports being off. There are a lot of big contests coming up, which always attract some big public sides. Let’s take a look at where the public money is going as bettors once again try to beat the books, with overs leading the way.
MLB: Rays @ Red Sox Over 10.0
Nothing the public loves more than a good over. That’s abundantly clear for this Tuesday MLB spot. The first such spot is here in Boston with the Red Sox kicking off a critical series with the Rays. Stakes are sky-high with the tight race for first place in the AL East, and bettors are expecting a lot of fireworks. 67 percent of the bets and 89 percent of the money are on the over 10 here, per DraftKings’ internal numbers shared with us.
Tampa is coming off a series against Baltimore where they scored at least nine runs in all three games, so this one isn’t too hard to understand. That being said, not every team has a pitching staff as pitiful as the Orioles’. Boston’s offense has also struggled a bit recently, scoring two runs or fewer in five of their past eight games, so we don’t anticipate a shootout here. We’re fading the public and taking the under.
MLB: White Sox -150 @ Twins
Looking away from totals for a moment, the public is also all over the White Sox on Tuesday. Chicago is a relatively modest favorite, but bettors don’t think that should be the case. A total of 85 percent of the bets and a whopping 90 percent of the money are on the White Sox -150 here in Minnesota.
Chicago won the opener of this series 11-1, which explains why the public is so excited. The Twins threw in the towel around the trade deadline, and aren’t planning on winning much down the stretch. Minnesota is also starting Griffin Jax, a rookie with a 5.63 ERA, so we don’t want any piece of them either. We’re siding with the public on this one and taking Chicago.
MLB: Diamondbacks @ Giants over 8.0
Ok, back to the overs now. Boston isn’t the only place bettors are expecting lots of action, as they’re backing offense in one of the slate’s nightcaps in San Francisco as well. Ninety percent of the bets and 89 percent of the money are on the over 8. The Giants have surprisingly had one of the league’s best offenses, and the public doesn’t think it’s a fluke anymore.
San Francisco has scored at least five runs in nine of their last 11 games, so it’s hard to argue too much. With Zac Gallen starting for Arizona, it’s even harder to argue. Gallen has pitched against the Giants three times this year, allowing 10 earned runs in only 10 and 1/3 innings. His ERA on the road this season is 5.10. With a declining Alex Wood on the mound for the Giants, so we’re taking the over.
