The Super Bowl is officially in the rearview mirrors, but basketball and hockey are in full swing and baseball is right around the corner. It’s a lot, and we’re grateful for it. There are some big contests coming up, which always create some big public sides. Let’s take a look at where the public money is going as bettors once again try to beat the books, with the Grizzlies leading the way on Tuesday.
NBA: Grizzlies -3.5 @ Pelicans
The Grizzlies have been one of the best stories in the NBA this season, and the public is officially all aboard the bandwagon. Bettors have been getting excited about Ja Morant and Memphis, and that’s certainly the case once again on Tuesday. 86 percent of the bets and a whopping 98 percent of the public money are backing them as a road favorite over New Orleans, per DraftKings’ internal numbers shared with us.
Clearly nobody has been swayed by the Pelicans’ recent addition of CJ McCollum. The Pels did just upset Toronto on Monday, but even that isn’t enough to garner much interest. Head over to our NBA page for free picks on the side and total for all seven games tonight.
NBA: Hornets @ Timberwolves under 243.5
Now here’s something we don’t see every day, a public under! Usually bettors like to root for as much excitement as possible, and as such they tend to gravitate toward overs. But not here. 86 percent of the bets and 73 percent of the public money are on the under 243.5 for Hornets/Timberwolves.
Apparently recreational bettors draw the line once the number creeps up into the 240s. It is an eye-popping line from oddsmakers, and it’s easily the highest total on the board by more than 10 points. I’ve got this game as part of my Tuesday NBA mega parlay (+1072), and you won’t want to miss it after I cashed it on Monday at nearly 11/1.
NCAAB: #20 Texas -1 @ Oklahoma
Shifting our attention now from pro hoops to college hoops. We’ve got a big NCAAB slate on Tuesday with some marquee matchups. One of the best games is this showdown in the Big 12 as Oklahoma hosts Texas. Oddsmakers have this game as virtually even, but bettors don’t see it that way. 87 percent of both the bets and the handle are coming in on the Longhorns as the slightest of favorites.
This one is interesting since Texas is coming off a 17-point loss to Baylor. While that’s freshest on everyone’s minds, bettors also seem to remember the game these teams played back on January 11th, when the Longhorns won by 14. We’ve got a three-star best bet for this matchup, so you’ll want to check out our full game preview.
NHL: Rangers -150 vs Bruins
Wrapping things up with some hockey now. One of the best games of the NHL slate on Tuesday is this Eastern Conference matchup between the Rangers and Bruins. Both these teams would be in the playoffs if the season ended today, so it should be a good one. 69 percent of the bets and 88 percent of the public money are on New York as a decent-sized favorite here at home.
The gap in those two percentages means that the large volume bets have been on the Rangers as well. New York is 7-3 in their last 10 while Boston has lost five of eight, so this one isn’t too hard to understand. Be sure to check out our NHL plays for the entire slate, we went 3-1 on sides and 3-1 on totals yesterday!
