It is already Week 9 of the 2022 college football season and it began with plenty of entertainment, as NC State scored 12 points in the 4th quarter to overcome Virginia Tech 22-21 on Thursday. Now it’s time to focus on Saturday, when there are 3 all-top 25 matchups on the schedule to go along with a rivalry game between Georgia and Florida.

The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is included in my favorite player props. Let’s take a look at them below, and be sure to check out all of our coverage on the college football page.

J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan Over 220.5 passing yards (-115)

In 6 starts since taking over as the starter for Cade McNamara, McCarthy has exceeded this number twice but also has performances of 214 yards and 220 yards. The only occasions on which he has been held to a smaller output was against a tenacious Iowa defense and during a 41-17 rout of Penn State in which he attempted just 24 passes. McCarthy should be in line for a productive day against rival Michigan State, whose pass defense is atrocious. The Spartans are giving up 269.0 yards per game and an especially alarming 8.2 yards per attempt. In last year’s thriller between the 2 teams, won by Michigan State 37-33, McCarthy and McNamara (mostly McNamara) combined for 406 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. McCarthy will probably have a lot of yards by the time Michigan jumps out to a big lead and head coach Jim Harbaugh will have no reservations about the running up the score on Michigan State if he is able to do so.

Ladd McConkey, WR, Georgia Over 45.5 receiving yards (-115)

This is a favorable matchup for McConkey – and of course for Georgia as a whole. In its 2 most recent losses to Tennessee and LSU, Florida allowed exactly 349 passing yards and both the Vols and the Tigers produced a 100-yard receiver. As always, star tight end Brock Bowers will command plenty of attention from the opposition and that should open the door for McConkey. The sophomore has surpassed this number in 5 of 7 contests this season and in 4 of the last 5. There is no reason why he should not be able to do so at the expense of the Gators, who give up 244.3 passing yards per game and 8.0 yards per pass attempt. I am 3-0 on my last 3 wide receiver props, 1 of which involved McConkey. Let’s make it 4 in a row by the end of Saturday.

Justice Ellison, RB, Wake Forest Over 0.5 rushing touchdowns (+110)

The over/under is 63.5 and Wake Forest is favored by more than a field goal against Louisville, so it’s clear that the Demon Deacons are expected to score a lot of points. And why not? They have exceeded the 40-point mark in 5 of 7 games this year and have not yet been held to fewer than 31. Ellison leads the team in rushing yards, attempts and yards per carry, plus he has found the endzone in 3 of the last 5 contests. Now he faces a mediocre Louisville defense, which is allowing 138.7 rushing yards per game and has given up 8 TDs on the ground. In last season’s head-to-head matchup, Ellison ran for 67 yards and a score. At plus money, this is a bargain.
