Don’t look now, but only 3 weeks remain in the 2022 college football regular season. There has already been some serious moving and shaking in the College Football Playoff rankings and more of that could continue following Week 11, as a couple of top teams have difficult matchups on their hands – including #4 TCU at #18 Texas.
For now we are focusing on individual players, so let’s take a look at my favorite prop bets for this weekend. Also be sure to check out all of our coverage on the college football page.
Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina Over 2.5 passing touchdowns (-130)
The over/under for this showdown between North Carolina and Wake Forest is 77, the highest of the week in all of college football. Barring some very unexpected developments, there will be points, points and more points. Maye has thrown at least 3 touchdown passes in 6 of 9 games during the 2022 campaign (including 5 on 3 occasions and 4 once), and there is no reason to think anything will change in what is expected to be an absolute shootout. Wake Forest ranks 70th in the county in passing defense and is allowing almost 30 points per contest. Wide receivers Josh Downs and Antoine Green have combined for 14 touchdowns to go along with more than 1,200 yards, giving Maye some serious weapons at his disposal. The star freshman should be line for another huge day at the office.

Xavier White, WR, Texas Tech Over 37.5 receiving yards (-115)
Our college football handicappers have the over in North Carolina vs Wake Forest and they are also going in that direction for this contest between Kansas and Texas Tech – with the total set at 65. You can count on plenty of points being scored, which also means a lot of yards gained. Don’t be surprised if White is 1 of the main contributors, at least to the extent that he can soar past a modest 37.5 number. White has exceeded that quota in 4 of the last 5 games, a stretch that includes performances of 120 and 139 yards. The senior from Lubbock, Tex. has hauled in at least 8 passes in 3 of the last 5 contests, so he is getting lots of opportunities and making the most of them. Texas Tech now faces a Kansas defense that is among the 10 worst passing defenses in the entire FBS (280.4 yards per game). Look for a big offensive showing from both White and the Red Raiders as a whole.

Tony Mathis Jr., RB, West Virginia Over 68.5 rushing yards (-105)
This is quite simply my favorite play of the week. And why not? Whereas Mathis is returning from a 2-game absence due to injury, West Virginia leading rusher CJ Donaldson (526 yards on 87 carries) is now out for the year. That means Mathis (492 yards on 99 attempts) will be shouldering the load against Oklahoma on Saturday, sharing carries only with Justin Johnson Jr. (333 yards on 77 rushes). Oklahoma is giving up 435.2 yards per game, including a ridiculous 199.9 on the ground. Opponents are averaging 4.8 yards per carry on this moribund defensive unit. TMJ has exceeded this 68.5 number 3 times in 2022 (including efforts of 104 and 163 yards) and with a less crowded backfield against a horrible defense he should go way over yet again.
