Week 1 of the college football season is nearly in the books. After an exciting Thursday and Friday portion of the slate, Saturday delivered a month’s worth of excitement. We had overtime finishes, upsets and dominant showings from national title contenders. In all, it was a weekend that delivered on the promise of this college football season.

With only a pair of games remaining in Week 1, it’s time to turn our attention to Week 2. This slate isn’t as loaded as Week 1, but there are still plenty of intriguing matchups. The opening lines were released at most sportsbooks on Sunday, so let’s take a look at these openers and give our first impressions.

Best early bets for NCAAF Week 2

Air Force -13.5 (-110) over Colorado

This is one that I would bet immediately. As long as this number stays at 2 touchdowns or better, Air Force has a ton of value. The Falcons’ offense is carried by their dominant ground game. As it just so happens, Colorado’s defense can’t stop the run at all. The Buffaloes surrendered 275 yards on the ground to TCU on Friday, good for about 9.2 yards per rush. With Colorado’s offense unable to get anything going in the passing game, the Buffaloes defense should be on the field often. That could spell disaster against an elite Air Force rushing attack.

BYU -2.5 (-115) over Baylor

This is another number that I could see clearing 3 by the time midweek rolls around. BYU is coming off a thrashing of South Florida while Baylor has yet to play a road game this season. Provo, Utah is an extremely difficult place to play and the Cougars offense seemed to pick up right where it left off in 2021. It’s tough to imagine that bettors won’t hammer BYU at the current number given the Cougars’ excellent ATS track record at home. If you like BYU, you’ll want to bet this sooner rather than later.

Marshall +20 (-110) vs Notre Dame

Last season Notre Dame hosted Toledo following a high-profile Week 1 contest. What followed was an extremely close game, with Toledo nearly pulling off the upset. Don’t be surprised if we get a similar result this Saturday. Marshall shouldn’t be priced as nearly a 3-touchdown underdog in this game. The Thundering Herd should contend for the toughest division in the Group of 5, making them a worthy opponent for Notre Dame. On the other side, the Fighting Irish had serious trouble stopping the run as well as establishing the run against Ohio State. This one should be closer to a 2-touchdown spread.
