The 2023 college football season is underway this weekend and Week 1 provided a ton of excitement for fans and bettors alike. We’ve got a special Labor Day edition of ACC action to close out the weekend, as this battle between Clemson and Duke will take place in Durham, where the Blue Devils will host the Tigers in an anticipated conference matchup. This contest kicks off at 8:00 pm ET and will be televised on ESPN.

But before we get started, be sure to check out all of our NCAAF content for the ongoing season. Let’s get into our same game parlay for the final game of Week 1.

Clemson Tigers -12.5 over Duke Blue Devils (-110)

This should be a new-and-improved Clemson side this season, especially in comparison to the last 2 seasons. With a veteran offensive line and a pair of the best running backs in the ACC, we know that Clemson can run the ball effectively. The question for the Tigers comes in the passing game. Quarterback Cade Klubnik looked overwhelmed at points last season, but he’ll have a much different offense to lead this time around. The big change comes with new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley in the fold. Riley was swiped away from TCU after leading the Frogs to the national title game in 2022. We will find out quickly if Riley is all he is cracked up to be, but I expect his impact to be felt immediately.

As for the defense, Clemson shouldn’t have many concerns there. They are still really strong across the board, particularly in the front seven, as you would expect from a Clemson team. Duke surprised many last year with its strong season and I do like the direction that the program is headed in. However, I believe we’ll see a bit of regression in Duke’s results this fall, starting with a double digit loss at the hands of one of the top teams in the conference.

Alternate Over 61.5 (+162)

Honing in on correlating results is typically helpful when betting a same game parlay. In this instance, I think a Clemson cover pairs nicely with this game not only going over the total, but sailing over the total. That’s why I’ve targeted an alternate spread to be the second leg in this SGP. Clemson’s new-look offense under Riley should have no trouble moving the ball against a Duke defense that will be outmatched for talent and speed at most positions. However, this veteran Duke group on offense should be able to find the end zone at least a couple of times, which will keep the pressure on Clemson to keep pushing on offense as well. I’m expecting the Tigers to hit 40 points, which means we won’t need too much from Duke to clear this alternate total.
