College basketball Friday mega parlay (+1148 odds): Rhode Island rolls

Just like that we’re approaching the home stretch of conference play, and we have a small but solid college hoops slate on Friday. What better way to celebrate than by going for a big payday? That’s right, we’re back with another mega parlay, college basketball edition. We’re going big and bold again, so let’s not waste any more time.

Akron ML (+290)

Rhode Island ML (+220)

Parlay odds: +1148

Let’s break down each of the two legs one by one.

Akron ML (+290) over Toledo

I’m taking the Zips to start off this mega parlay in the MAC. I think Akron is better than a lot of people realize. They’ve got real upside, as they showed way back at the beginning of the season when they only lost to Ohio State by a single point. Nobody is talking about them, but the Zips are 11-2 in their last 13 games and are riding a solid five-game winning streak.

They can beat you in a variety of different ways, and have four different guys averaging at least 11 points. 6’8 forward Ali Ali is averaging more than 14 points per game while shooting better than 44 percent from deep, and he’s very versatile. Toledo’s defense has been pretty shaky at times, so if they aren’t clicking on offense tonight Akron could very easily steal a win.

Rhode Island ML (+220) over Dayton

To wrap up this simple two-leg mega parlay up and hopefully bring us home, we’ve got Rhode Island. I don’t have nearly enough confidence in Dayton’s offense for them to be this large of a favorite here. Their offense frequently stalls out, like when they scored only 49 points in a loss to a middling George Mason team just two games ago. The Flyers’ defensive style of play gives their games high variance and makes them prone to upsets.

They don’t have much shooting, and nobody averages more than 11.6 points per game. Rhode Island is 12-6, and they could easily be a lot better. They’ve lost some heartbreakers, and five of those six losses have come by seven points or fewer. It’s why Kenpom has them ranked 277th in ‘luck’ factor, and why they’re due for some positive regression.
