Cleveland Browns vs Washington Commanders NFL predictions, picks, odds & spreads: Commanders down the Browns

The Commanders are looking to stay on track for a place in the NfL playoffs but know they need to get a victory over this plucky Browns team in order to maintain those hopes. Cleveland is already eliminated from postseason contention but quarterback Deshaun Watson will be determined to prove he is still the top-level QB we saw when he was in Houston. With sports betting finally legal in Ohio, expect this game to get plenty of betting action from the Cleveland faithful. NFL Cleveland Browns vs Washington Commanders expert predictions

It’s fair to say that Watson has not yet played up to expectation since returning from suspension and becoming the Browns’ starting quarterback. As for the Commanders, despite being on the cusp of a playoff place they have opted to switch back to Carson Wentz as their signal-caller. This is a game between two teams with issues at the quarterback position. As a result, expect points to come at a premium, but on the whole, this motivated Washington team should secure the victory with postseason implications on the line.

Cleveland Browns vs Washington Commanders expert picks

We’ve got 2 standout NFL picks for the clash between the Browns and Commanders.

Browns vs Commanders point spread pick: Commanders -2.5 (-110)

The Washington Commanders will look to keep pace in the NFC wild-card hunt here as they host the Cleveland Browns in week 17. The Browns are just playing for pride at this point, and DeShaun Watson just wants to show people that he can get back to his old self. His first few games with his new team haven’t gone too well, and I don’t think things will get too much better here on the road against a tough Washington defense. Watson has now started four games at quarterback for the Browns, and he has only managed to top 161 yards once. That was in a game where he threw for 276 and a lopsided loss to the Bengals where Cleveland only produced 10 points. The offense has been pretty anemic ever since he returned from a suspension, and his rust isn’t going to magically go away here.

Washington has a lot more to play for, and they just got Chase Young added back to an already stacked defensive front. Cleveland’s defense has been playing a bit better on paper recently, but that’s only because outside of their game against Cincinnati they played only terrible offenses recently. The Browns are just 1-4 in their last five games on the road, and that one win came against the lowly Houston Texans. Washington is going back to Carson Wentz at quarterback here, and while he isn’t great, he is still probably an upgrade on Taylor Heinicke. He played pretty well against a really tough 49ers defense last week, completing 12 of his 16 passes after coming on in relief of Heinicke and not taking any sacks. I’m laying the points with the Commanders.

Browns vs Commanders Over/Under totals pick: Under 41 (-110)

Both of these teams have played in some ugly games recently, and I expect that trend to continue here. This Browns passing game has been worse with DeShaun Watson than it was with Jacoby Brissett, and Cleveland has now failed to top 13 points in three straight weeks. Watson still looks very rusty, and even Nick Chubb hasn’t been putting up anywhere close to his usual numbers recently. Chubb didn’t score a single touchdown in December, and now they’re going on the road to face a tough Washington defense that just got Chase Young back. He and Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne will combine forces to make Watson’s life miserable on Sunday. Carson Wentz might be a slight upgrade on Taylor Heinicke, but the emphasis should be on slight. I don’t think he’s coming off the bench and lighting it up here.
