Champions League soccer predictions and UCL best bets for Wednesday 12/13: Newcastle take down AC Milan

Eddie Howe has saluted Callum Wilson’s “brilliant mentality” as he waits to see whether his latest battle to return from adversity will be rewarded with a World Cup call-up. The 30-year-old striker is back in the Newcastle team and among the goals after a six-week lay-off with a hamstring injury.

The 2023-24 UEFA Champions League group stage concludes on Wednesday afternoon with plenty of teams fighting to secure their place in the knockout stage. One of the closest battles is taking place in Group F, with European giants PSG, Newcastle and AC Milan each fighting it out for one spot, with Borussia Dortmund having already booked their spot in the next round. We have a pick from each of those huge matchups, with games scheduled to kick off at 3:00 pm ET on Paramount+. You can also read our soccer predictions for more Champions League picks as well as our EPL best bets each week.

Newcastle vs AC Milan best bet: Newcastle ML (-115)

With these 2 teams locked on 5 points in Champions League Group F, there is plenty to play for at St. James’ Park on Wednesday. Third place is the most likely prize for the winner of this fixture, although 2nd is still up for grabs and can be attained if Borussia Dortmund beat PSG, meaning a place in the knockout stage in either the Champions League or Europa League is still available for both Newcastle and Milan.

Newcastle have won 8 of their last 9 home games, beating giants Manchester City, PSG, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in that fantastic run. The Toon Army can create an intense atmosphere and Milan may struggle to cope with that, just as PSG did when losing 4-1 earlier in the group stage.

Borussia Dortmund vs PSG best bet: Borussia Dortmund or tie double chance (-115)

PSG need to beat Borussia Dortmund to usurp their hosts at the top of Group F, while a tie for Dortmund would be enough to see them top this Champions League section. Backed by their famous Yellow Wall, they should get the result they need to go through to the knockout phase as group winners.

PSG were easily intimidated by the St. James’ Park crowd at Newcastle where they lost 4-1, and the ambience in Dortmund should be similar to what the Parisians faced on that day, which could lead to another poor result for Luis Enrique’s side. Dortmund beat the Magpies 2-0 in their last Champions League home game and have been solid at Signal Iduna Park of late.
