New York Knicks ML over Boston Celtics (+120)

The Knicks have had this game on their minds ever since they lost the regular-season opener 132-109 back in October. In that game the Celtics had a historic night shooting the ball; they connected on 29 3-pointers and led by as many as 35 points. However, their recent performances have been anything but historic. The defending champions have been inconsistent for a while now, but the oddsmakers still believe in them for some reason. This is great news for all of us who like the Knicks, we are getting a really solid price for a team that’s 34-17 SU on the season and 18-9 SU in home games.

New York has been in solid form for a while now, having won 7 of 8 games overall and 5 of 6 at MSG. Playing in front of a packed arena will be a motivating factor in itself, especially since the Knicks know they haven’t performed well against Boston in home games lately. This is a battle for the second seed in the Eastern Conference and a massive character test for head coach Tom Thibodeau’s men. I have faith the Knicks can pull of the upset.

Jalen Brunson to score 25+ points (-155)

Although he was held to just 22 points in the first meeting of the season, that was mainly due to the game getting out of hand early and Brunson playing just 25 minutes total. He went 9-for-14 from the field in that loss, so his per 36 stats from that game are quite impressive. Despite facing multiple elite defenders in Jrue Holiday, Derrick White and Jaylen Brown, Brunson has always been able to deliver against this Boston team. In the last 5 meetings he’s at 28.8 points per game, while in his last outing against them at MSG he dropped a cool 34 to go along with his 9 assists.

His recent form has also been really solid; he’s at 27.7 points per game over his last 10 while shooting an efficient 51.5% from the field and 45.3% from deep. He has also cleared this line 3 times in his last 4 games, including a 42-point explosion in the win over Houston at MSG. There’s no doubt in my mind that the majority of the offense will go through Brunson, so let’s back him to have yet another 25-point game.

Karl-Anthony Towns 2+ made 3-pointers (-125)

As good as Brunson is and will be in this game, he cannot beat the Celtics on his own. In comes Karl-Anthony Towns. The big fella has been a very consistent secondary scoring option, even taking over as the primary one on certain nights. His 3-point efficiency has drifted a bit over the past 10 games, but that doesn’t mean we should shy away from backing him to get a pair of triples. He has shot 50% or better from three in 2 of his last 3 outings, while in his last game against Toronto he knocked down a pair of 3-point attempts.

Boston is allowing opponents to shoot 39.4% from downtown in the last 3 games; the shorthanded Dallas Mavericks just exposed the C’s from the perimeter, shooting 45.5% in a shocking upset win. Towns vs Kristaps Porzingis will be a fun matchup to watch. I’m sure KAT would like to get one over the Latvian as he claims to be the best shooting big man in the NBA.
