The battle to be top African is more clear cut with outright selection Christiaan Bezuidenhout expected to outperform Dean Burmester, Erik van Rooyen and Casey Jarvis. With Jarvis still learning the ropes, this is likely to boil down to a battle between the top 3 and Bezuidenhout should be tough to beat at a course that suits his measured style.
The 30-year-old has finished 13th in the last 2 editions of the Players Championship, an event won by the last Pinehurst US Open champion, Martin Kaymer, the year he won this event, so there is every chance he takes to this venue. Burmester, on the other hand, is a huge hitter who could struggle to rein himself in while Van Rooyen’s form has dipped in recent tournaments.
