Best player props for Saturday's NHL slate: Chabot on 6-game point streak

With 4 games postponed, there are just 6 left tonight in the NHL. We’re going to take a deeper dive into 2 of the matchups and choose some player props we think will provide good value and will have a great chance of hitting. The games are starting at 7pm ET and the final game of the night starts at 10:30pm ET.

Thomas Chabot over 0.5 points (-125)

Thomas Chabot and the Ottawa Senators have been on a roll. The Sens have won 5 of their last 7 games, and during that stretch, Chabot has 9 points. He’s on a 6-game point-scoring streak and will be looking to continue that tonight. Chabot is one of the better young defensemen in the league, and he’s on one of the best streaks of his career. He averages more than 27 minutes a night, which not only leads the Senators in time on ice, but leads the entire league. The fact he plays so many minutes exposes him to more chances. He will be critical tonight if Otttawa expects to get a 6th win in 8 games.

Chabot also averages 3:37 powerplay minutes a night and has 6 powerplay points on the season. The Flyers are allowing more than 4 minor penalties a game, which should give him a good chance to grab a point. Martin Jones will be the goaltender for Philly. He’s allowing 3.37 goals per game this season. Take Chabot to record a point and extend his streak to 7 games.

Auston Matthews over 4.5 shots (+110)

The Maple Leafs are the latest team to suffer from players entering Covid protocols. With Marner already out with an injury, Tavares, Kerfoot Spezza, and Simmonds are now in isolation. The bulk of the load will be on Matthews tonight, and he will have little to no support in terms of offensive production. Expect him to play well over 20 minutes tonight, likely breaking his season high of time on ice, which is 24:29. In December, Matthews has totaled 36 shots in 7 games, averaging more than 5 shots a game. With significant pieces missing from the lineup tonight, expect him to shoot the puck as often as possible. The majority of the offense will be coming from him and William Nylander, and it’s critical that both of them play well.

This line provides great value when you consider what Matthews has done this month and the role he’ll need to play. He’s on a 10-game point streak and is playing with a ton of confidence. Take Matthews to record over 4.5 shots.
