Major League Baseball is back in full swing after the break, and we have a great reduced slate on Monday. There are fewer games than usual, but still some opportunities for value. With fewer games to pore over, only one prop play really jumped out to me. It centers on another strong performance from promising Mets rookie Tylor Megill. Before we get to that, don’t forget to first check what our MLB analysts have backed with side and total picks for all 9 games today.

Tylor Megill over 5.5 strikeouts (-136)

Line available at publishing at FanDuel

Megill’s first seven starts have gone about as well as the Mets could’ve hoped for. He’s got a 2.04 ERA, and New York is 6-1 in his outings. With his 39 strikeouts in 35 and 1/3 innings, as long as we get six frames from him here I think we’re very likely to cash this.

He has got to at least six strikeouts in four of his past six games. One time he got to seven despite throwing only 3 and 2/3 innings. Megill had an absurd 59 strikeouts in 40 and 1/3 innings in the minors before getting called up this year, so his penchant for punching guys out certainly isn’t a fluke.

All we need is for Megill not to get pulled early. Against a weak-hitting Marlins lineup that has struggled mightily recently, that’s not too big of a concern. Over their past three games, Miami has scored just four total runs.

On the flip side, Megill has given up only three total runs across his last five starts. Making this matchup even more appealing, the Marlins have the fifth-most strikeouts of any team in MLB this season. Everything is shaping up nicely for another strong start from the rookie.
