Best Player Props for Friday's MLB Slate: Gant tames Pirates

John Gant player props

Open your score app right now and check out how many MLB games there are tonight. Behold the site of 15 games! You can just keep scrolling and scrolling and seemingly never reach the bottom of the slate. It feels great! Whenever there are this many games, it just makes sense to pluck a couple player props from the board. Here are two that stick out the most.

Don’t forget to check what our MLB analysts have backed with side and total picks for all 15 games tonight. As always, bets can be added to the card so why not follow me on Twitter in case we get some last second action? It makes sense.

John Gant Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+134)

Line available at publishing at Fanduel

The books are all over the map with this price as DraftKings has Gant’s number at 3.5 (-120). I prefer not to lay -120 in this situation since I think Gant will strikeout at least five. The +134 is worth a bet in my opinion. By all means, if you want to go with the 3.5 at -120 over at DraftKings, feel free.

Gant kind of struggled out of the gate this season but has settled in nicely over his last two starts. I say he kind of struggled, but he’s only give up five earned runs all season. In his last two starts, he went at least five innings which is what we are looking for tonight. His last game he actually made it six innings.

Gant struggles with walks but the Pirates lineup is middle of the pace in terms of walks so we are good there. He has managed five strikeouts in both of his last two starts so this number isn’t too big for him. He’ll see a Pirates lineup that has some strikeout candidates.

Colin Moran and Gregory Polanco both figure to be in the lineup and both are right around a 30% strikeout percentage. Although JT Brubaker is a decent hitting pitcher, he is prone to the strikeout as well. If Gant can get through this lineup twice, he should find at least five strikeout victims. This is one of my favorite player props tonight.

Brady Singer Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+102)

The other of my favorite player props I have my eye on is Brady Singer of the Kansas City Royals. DraftKings has him at 4.5 -170 but the -170 is an absolute dealbreaker. Even though we need an extra strikeout at FanDuel, it’s still the better option at +102.

In each of Singer’s last three starts he’s recorded at least six strikeouts. On the season, he has 25 in 21 innings pitched which is nice to see. His 25.4% strikeout rate on the season is inline with what we want for this number.

As for the Twins, they have some bats in their lineups and they will likely win this game but Singer could still strikeout six batter in a loss. Alex Kirilloff, Max Kepler and Byron Buxton all figure to be in the lineup and all strikeout 20+% of the time. If Mitch Garver is behind the plate, he sports a whopping 44.3% strikeout rate. If Singer goes six innings, he should find a way to get to six strikeouts.
