I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. We’ve been having a solid week on the ice thus far, so let’s keep the momentum rolling. There’s a great 11-game NHL slate, so we have plenty of opportunities for profit. If you aren’t feeling many of the sides or totals, there’s always the player prop market. So many games can make it seem overwhelming to break down all the matchups, but that’s what we’re here for. With such a large slate, we’ve also got a bonus play for you, so let’s get into it.

Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Steven Stamkos over 0.5 assists (+110)

With an extra play to give out, let’s cut to the chase. Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning are looking to make the 4th straight Stanley Cup Final appearance, and tonight they have the Philadelphia Flyers in their way. However, they haven’t provided much resistance as of late. Prior to their win on Tuesday, they had lost 10 straight games. They’re beginning to look like the Flyers of last season, and Stamkos feasted against them.

In 3 meetings against Philly last season, he recorded 6 points, 4 of which were assists. It certainly helps that he skates alongside a prolific goalscorer in Nikita Kucherov. Even teammate Brayden Point has recorded 4 goals in Tampa’s last 3 games. If that wasn’t enough, this game is also all about Stamkos going for his 1,000th career point. He nearly reached in against the Boston Bruins in their last game, but their stout defense held him to just 1 point. Now facing a declining Flyers squad, we’re expecting a historic night for Stamkos.

Cale Makar over 0.5 assists (-170)

We’re targeting the same prop with a skater that has been great to us the last 2 seasons. Cale Makar set a franchise record for points by a defenseman with 86 last season as the Colorado Avalanche went on to win the Stanley Cup. He too skates alongside incredible goalscorers in Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. You can be sure that trio, and all of the Avs, will be coming out with a vengeance.

They were just shockingly shut out by the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Expect Colorado to bounce back in a big way taking on a Buffalo Sabres team that was just in Detroit playing the Red Wings last night. They’re also allowing the 5th-most goals per game, so this is the perfect spot for the Avs to bounce back. Makar should be a part of that, as he has 21 points in 20 games so far this season. Of those, 15 have been assists. Even if he notches a goal, expect an assist to MacKinnon to go along with it.

Jason Robertson over 3.5 shots on goal (-150)

With how volatile shots-on-goal props have been this season, we’re not making these plays lightly. However, this spot is simply too perfect. Firstly, the Dallas Stars are shining this season, sitting atop the Central Division. They’ve been led by Jason Robertson, who has 97 shots in 23 games. That’s the 8th-most in the NHL, and now he gets to face the worst team in the NHL. Not only are the Anaheim Ducks terrible overall, they are allowing the most shots per game.

Even if they weren’t, Robertson has been a model of consistency. He’s hit this prop in 10 of his last 12 games, including an incredible 10-shot performance against the Edmonton Oilers. It’s also worth noting that the Stars are in Dallas for this matchup. Robertson has hit this prop in all but 3 home games this season. The Stars’ last game was one of the few times he didn’t have at least 4 shots on goal, so much like Makar, expect him to come out sniping and perhaps hit this prop within the first 2 periods.
