We’ve had a solid weekend, so let’s keep things rolling to begin this new week. Monday has just 4 games on the board, but we’re still here to target the best spots for profit. If most of the sides or totals are jumping off the page at you, we can take advantage of the player prop market. There’s just 8 teams in action, but that still means hundreds of skaters. We’ve got 2 different markets for our favorite plays today, so let’s dive in. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.
Mikko Rantanen over 3.5 shots on goal (+135)
We targeted Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche late last week, and he came through with flying colors. His teammate and line partner may not have 8 shots on goal like MacKinnon did that night, but Mikko Rantanen should get us at least half of that. He and the Avs remain at home for this matchup, which has always provided a boost to their shots on goal props. They’re also facing a struggling St. Louis Blues team. They were able to snap their 8-game losing streak last week, but now taking on the defending Stanley Cup champions is a tall task.
Colorado just crushed the Carolina Hurricanes by 3 goals, which is generally a defensive team. We expect the Avs to have another strong day, and that includes Rantanen taking advantage of the Blues’ inability to prevent shots on goal. St. Louis has been particularly bad in that regard on the road. They’ve allowed the 7th-most shots per game away from home, and Rantanen torched them last season. It was just 1 matchup, but he had 6 shots on goal. The Colorado right winger also had success against them in the 2nd round of the playoffs last season. As a bonus play, we love Cale Makar to record an assist, but our official play is on Rantanen.
Lock in our NHL mega parlay for tonight’s action at +750 odds
Andrei Svechnikov over 0.5 points (-165)
We mentioned the Hurricanes, and that’s where we’re headed for our second play. If you’d like some more bonus action, we also love Sebastian Aho to record an assist. However, we’re focusing on Andrei Svechnikov for a few reasons. We’re willing to pay the juice as this point prop means he can score a goal or record an assist and they both still cash. He’s likely to do either one because Teuvo Teravainen was recently placed on the injured reserve. That puts a lot of pressure on Svechnikov and Aho to team up and carry the ‘Canes.
Those 2 will be on the top line together with Aho at center and Svechnikov alongside as his right winger. They’ll also be leading the power play against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Their penalty kill is the 7th-worst in the NHL, which bodes well for this play. Similarly, we also expect Carolina to look strong at even strength. The ‘Hawks are also a strange case in that they allow more goals per game at home rather than on the road. They’ll be heading back to Chicago after a game out in California, and the Hurricanes will be coming off of a tough loss to the Avs. We expect Carolina to come out strong led by Svechnikov, Aho and even defenseman Brent Burns (just another bonus play for you).
