It’s always a bummer when we have a slower night in the NHL, and we have just 3 games on the board tonight. However, there is still value to be had. Such few matchups can mean less opportunity in terms of sides and totals, but the player prop market is always plentiful. We can attack entire rosters of players for several different betting types. Rather than worrying if a team wins or loses, we’ve broken down the best players to target given tonight’s matchups. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.
Let’s take a closer look at my 2 favorite player props.
Matthew Tkachuk over 0.5 goals (+148)
First and foremost, there was just as much consideration for Panthers skater Aaron Ekblad to record an assist for our favorite prop in this matchup. Consider that an honorable mention play, and it very well may be Matthew Tkachuk that scores off of his assist. We’re targeting the new Panther for several reasons, as he’s made an immediate impact on his new team. Tkachuk was acquired via trade from the Calgary Flames in the offseason and has already proven to be a perfect fit.
His 4 points are tied for the most on the team and he’s averaging just over 21 minutes of ice time per game. That’s just a taste of what the left-winger can do. His 104 points last season were tied for the 6th-most in the NHL, and his 42 goals were tied for the 8th-most. That helped him achieve a +57 plus-minus, which means good things happen far more often when he’s on the ice. He should put those numbers into action against a Flyers team that is on the 2nd night of a road back-to-back. They used starting goaltender Carter Hart against the Tampa Bay Lightning last night, which means the Panthers’ high-flying offense should be in true form tonight. Tkachuk’s brother, Brady, scored a goal for the Senators last night, and tonight should be Matthew’s turn.

Jordan Kyrou over 0.5 points (-123)
Of all the teams that may have benefitted the most from the early NHL schedule, the Blues may be at the top of that list. They’ve played just 1 game so far this season, so expect a fresh group of skaters who are already one of the most physical teams in the league. After handling the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 in their lone game, now they get to face the Kraken in just their sophomore season as a franchise.
While the Blues are a great all-around team, youngster Jordan Kyrou has truly started to ascend. His name became a bit more well-known when he beat Connor McDavid in the all-star speed-skating competition and continued that with his play in the 2nd half of the season. In his first year as a full-time player, Kyrou recorded 75 points in 74 games. He was also among the best for St. Louis against the Kraken last season, recording a point in all 3 games against them. It’s worth paying the price for his point prop as he had 27 goals along with his 48 assists last season, and had 2 goals along with an assist against Seattle last year. Regardless of how he gets it, Kyrou should continue to crush the Kraken tonight.
