I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. We’re on a 4-1 run with our NHL props over the last 2 nights, so let’s keep things rolling. After the entire NHL was idle yesterday, we’re back with a 9-game slate tonight. However, the season is still young and it requires time to truly figure teams out. Thankfully, there is always the player prop market to rely on. We’ve targeted the best spots for the games going tonight and broken it all down for you. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite hockey player props today.

Chris Kreider over 2.5 shots on goal (-120)

Just as there is still variation in how teams are going to perform, there is still some feeling-out to do with how players are going to be used this season. Therefore, we’re going to continue targeting the tried and true just as we have been to continue being profitable. The Rangers are taking on the Ducks at home tonight, which provides a great matchup for Chris Kreider. Anaheim is coming off a 7-1 beatdown by the New York Islanders and now get a Rangers team that has already defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning and Minnesota Wild by multiple goals.

We’re targeting Kreider specifically as he looks to repeat his goalscoring success from last season. His 52 goals last year were the 3rd-most in the NHL and the Ducks are the perfect team to allow him plenty of opportunities to score tonight. Anaheim allowed the 7th-most shots per game last year and made no notable offseason additions. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that through the first week of the season, they’ve allowed the 2nd-most shots per game. Kreider also loves to take his snipes at home, as he averaged just under 3.5 shots per game at home last season. He hit this prop when he faced the Ducks in Madison Square Garden and should do the same tonight.

Sidney Crosby over 1.5 points (+155)

It may not feel exciting targeting one of the biggest names in NHL history, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a valuable play. Crosby came through for us with this exact same prop at +150 odds in the Penguins’ season opener against the Arizona Coyotes, and is facing just as weak an opponent tonight. The Canadiens have lost each of their last 2 games by multiple goals and allowed the most goals per game in the NHL last season.

They have the same goaltender in Jake Allen, so another rough season could be in store. Montreal lost their first meeting to the Pens last season 6-0 and Crosby has loved playing in these matchups. He recorded 6 points in 3 games against the Canadiens last season, and he already has 6 points through 2 games this season. That’s tied for the most in the league with Rangers Artemi Panarin, who has already played in 3 games. Crosby’s hot start had him recently move into 19th for points recorded all-time with 1,415. He has shown no signs of slowing down, so we’re going to continue riding him to the pay window just as we did last season and have already this year.
