While it’s been a full weekend since the NHL trade deadline, there’s still a lot to catch up on. There were plenty of new faces in new places this weekend as the race towards the postseason heats up. However, it can make it more difficult to target specific skaters at times. Thankfully, we’re here to check lines, matchups and everything in between. With that in mind, we’ve come up with our favorite spots to target in terms of player props for today’s slate.

Connor McDavid over 1.5 points (-170)
There isn’t anything that hasn’t already been said about the world’s best skater. However, the season McDavid is having is still nothing short of incredible. He’s all but a lock to win the Hart Trophy for the league’s MVP and the Art Ross Trophy for the most points. It will be his 3rd straight year leading the league in points after having already done it in back-to-back seasons twice. McDavid reached 100 points in just 53 games and recently eclipsed 120 points.
He was the fastest skater to do so since Mario Lemieux in 1995-96 and is on pace to have the first 150-point season in 27 years. His 122 points are just 1 shy of his mark last season, and the Edmonton Oilers still have 18 games to go. We’re expecting him to surpass last season’s total tonight. The Buffalo Sabres should be the perfect opponent as they’ve allowed the 3rd-most goals since the start of 2023 and most since February 1. The sheer fact that we can’t even get McDavid’s multi-point prop on the road even close to plus-money any more speaks for itself. Even still, he has proved that he’s still worth the price, and today’s is more valuable than usual.

Claude Giroux over 0.5 assists (+120)
He may not be labeled as the best skater in the world, but Claude Giroux is a former captain himself. That was on a bad Philadelphia Flyers team, and a lot has changed since then. After being traded to the Florida Panthers and now a member of the Ottawa Senators, he’s a major part of their improvement this season. Don’t look now, but the Sens are just 3 points back from a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They’re on a 5-game winning streak, and have won each contest by multiple goals.
If Giroux and company can do that on the road against the New York Rangers, they certainly can against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. They’re just 1 point shy of the NHL’s worst record, and have traded away Patrick Kane to boot. We expect Giroux to feast on the Hawks, just like he has throughout his career. For a guy who has been in the Eastern Conference for his entire career, he has 25 points in 21 games against Chicago, 18 of which are assists. Now he has skaters Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle alongside him, who have been sniping at an incredible rate. Therefore, we like Giroux to send out a helper in a strong Senators performance.
