It’s still just the NHL’s second day back since All-Star weekend, so we’re still seeing many teams for the first time in well over a week. We’ve got matchups of teams vying for playoff positioning, along with games involving teams all but mathematically eliminated. Rather than sweating the outcome of those games, we can always target the player prop market. That’s exactly what we’ve done here and after breaking down the matchups on the board tonight, we have our favorite plays for you.

Steven Stamkos over 1.5 points (+130)
We’ve been kicking off the second half of the season with some go-to names, and tonight is no different. Steven Stamkos continues to come through for both us and the Tampa Bay Lightning. The former 60-goal scorer is trying to lead the squad to their 4th straight Stanley Cup Final appearance and has a great matchup. They’ll be on the second night of a back-to-back but will be back in Tampa taking on a terrible San Jose Sharks team. Firstly, Stamkos is 2nd on the team with 57 points through 49 games.
That has helped the Lightning as a team to lead the league in terms of goals per game at home (4.08). In fact, they’re the only team over 4 goals per game in their own arena. Now that high-flying offense gets face off against a Sharks goaltending that has allowed the 3rd-most goals per game since the start of 2023. It’s also worth noting that Tampa has recently put Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point all together on the top line for their last 4 games, rather than splitting them up. Such a ‘perfection line’ should feast on San Jose. Stamkos has had multiple points in 4 of his last 6 games against the Sharks and should slash through them once again.

Connor McDavid over 3.5 shots on goal (-150)
We’re sticking with another big name and one you’ve likely seen us target throughout the season. That’s no surprise, as there really isn’t much that hasn’t been said about Edmonton’s Connor McDavid at this point. He’s a transcendent talent who is on pace for a 150-point season — that would be the first one since Mario Lemieux did it 27 years ago. Again, all the accolades have been discussed day-in and day-out. However, there is one thing that McDavid doesn’t have that he is beginning to make clear he wants.
That is the Rocket Richard Trophy for the NHL’s goalscoring leader. Auston Matthews won it last year and was the first American-born player to score 60 goals in a season. McDavid is leading the league with 41 thus far, so you may be wondering why our play is on his shots on goal. At the All-Star skills competitions he interviewed with ESPN’s Emily Kaplan and stated he has made a point to shoot more this season for that exact reason. Therefore, it’s no surprise that he’s hit over this number in 9 of his last 10 games and his 209 shots are tied for the 5th-most in the NHL. Feel free to play his goalscoring prop as well, but we’ll keep things a bit safer with his shots on goal against the Red Wings.
