There are fewer surprises on this night of the NHL schedule compared to yesterday as all 4 teams were more or less expected to advance having all been the higher seed in the first round. There have been some surprising performances by players we wouldn’t expect and some not-so-surprising performances by the stars. The NHL playoffs never disappoint and there is no reason to think these conference semifinals will be any different.

If you are looking to have some action yourself, here are our favorite NHL player prop bets for Wednesday’s schedule. You can also check out our NHL picks for each of today’s games.

Ondrej Palat over 0.5 points (+110)

Ondrej Palat was a catalyst for the Devils in Game 7 as he willed his way to an unbelievable hustle play, setting up the first goal of the game more than midway through the contest. He tacked on another assist, so had a direct hand in 2 of the Devils’ 4 goals in the do-or-die game. Those were points 4 and 5 for Palat in the 7-game series, but they were backloaded as he tallied 4 points in the final 4 games of the series. Having spent the past 10 years with the Lightning, Palat has been to 4 Stanley Cup Finals and won 2 of them. He is no stranger to competing at this time of year and his play is beginning to show it.

What really makes these +110 odds look attractive is the teammates with whom Ondrej Palat consistently shares the ice. He is slated on the second line with Jack Hughes and Erik Haula. Hughes is a superstar and Haula leads the team with 6 points. Palat is also on the second power-play unit with Haula, Damon Severson and first-liners Jesper Bratt and Tomas Tatar. Palat will be matched up against good players on the Hurricanes, but he and his linemates have the pedigree and form to go toe-to-toe with anyone on the Hurricanes. Anyone who plays with Hughes has a good chance to get on the scoresheet, let alone a multiple Stanley Cup winner.

Ivan Barbashev over 0.5 points (+145)

This is exactly the time of year for which Ivan Barbashev was acquired at the trade deadline. He is the prototypical playoff player that every team wants. He is penciled in on the Golden Knights’ top line with Jack Eichel and Jonathan Marchessault. Barbashev is a Stanley Cup winner with the 2019 Blues and played an important role on the team. He can play on the first or fourth lines and everywhere in between, and morph his game accordingly. He plays physically, creates space for his linemates, and has good hands to bury the puck himself when the opportunity is there. Aside from an amateur scouting report, the Golden Knights acquired Barbashev for a reason and have put him in a position to succeed. Anyone sharing a line with Eichel and Marchessault will be put into positions to log a point.

This matchup between the Oilers and Golden Knights has the makings of a high-scoring series. The Oilers led the NHL in goals scored per game, which will force the Golden Knights to try to keep up. Neither team particularly excelled in goal prevention this season, with Vegas and Edmonton ranking 11th and 17th respectively. After the first round, the Oilers and Golden Knights were the top scoring teams in the Western Conference in terms of goals per game. These teams have been successful by way of scoring as opposed to keeping out the opposition. In a series that could be high-scoring, Barbashev is a good player in a good situation to be a contributor.
