I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After an incredible weekend that included 17 NHL games over the past 2 days, we have a rather chill night. With just 4 games on the board, there aren’t quite as many opportunities out there. As we’ve stated in the past, we’re never going to force plays. Just as we provided a bonus play yesterday, we’re sticking with just 1 play for tonight’s action. We’ll always make sure to only provide you with the best and most valuable plays, so let’s dive in. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Jeff Skinner over 0.5 assists (+130)

The Buffalo Sabres have been incredible to us this season, and there’s no reason not to keep showing them some love. Tage Thompson is a legit dark horse for this year’s MVP, and he’s been helped by the play of Alex Tuch, Rasmus Dahlin and Jeff Skinner. That core has helped the Sabres become the highest-scoring team in the NHL, even better than the Boston Bruins. They’re also coming off an impressive win over the Minnesota Wild in which they scored 6 goals. However, the most surprising part of that performance was the fact that Skinner didn’t record a single point.

That’s been a rarity for him this season, as he has 39 points through 34 games. We’re getting a solid price on this play even with him on home ice as he does like to take his shots. However, we’re backing him to link up with the real sharpshooter in Thompson to find the back of the net. He should be able to do so against a Philadelphia Flyers team that will be on the second night of a back-to-back and have to travel up to Buffalo to boot. The Sabres and Flyers haven’t faced off yet this season, but Skinner feasted on them last year. He recorded at least an assist in all 3 meetings, including 2 in the most recent game. Buffalo wasn’t even close to the offensive juggernaut then that they are now, so expect that trend to continue.
