I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. NHL Parlay Picks (12/19)

Devils 3-way ML (-125)

Bruins 3-way ML (-130)

Hurricanes ML & Under 6.5 (+195)

NHL parlay odds: +839

New Jersey Devils 3-way ML over Philadelphia Flyers (-125)

One of the first puck-drops of the night features a Metropolitan Division rivalry with the Devils hosting the Flyers. It was just 2 seasons ago that these were 2 of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, but now they both have their eyes set on the postseason. Surprisingly, it’s Philly ahead of New Jersey in the standings, but we still believe that the Devils are the better team. The odds would suggest the same, and New Jersey should be able to prove it tonight.

They defeated the Flyers a little over 2 weeks ago, and their record is a bit deceiving given the injury to Jack Hughes earlier in the season. Admittedly, we’d certainly prefer goaltender Vitek Vanecek be fully healthy, but New Jersey’s offense is superior enough to carry them. The Devils are tied for the 6th-most goals per game, while Philly scores the 9th-fewest. New Jersey getting the job done in regulation is the first leg of our NHL parlay picks.

Boston Bruins 3-way ML over Minnesota Wild (-130)

We’re backing another Eastern Conference team, but this time one in the Atlantic Division. We all know about the record-setting season that Boston had last year, and with former captain Patrice Bergeron having retired, there was concern of a let-down season this year. However, the Bruins are atop the division with a 21-goal differential, and now they get to host a Wild team playing well below expectations. TD Garden is already one of the toughest places to play, and Minnesota will be entering the game having just been in Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins last night.

To make things worse, the Wild started Filip Gustavsson in net for that game. That puts veteran Marc-Andre Fleury between the pipes for this game. His .886 save percentage is a major drop-off, so even though he’s a future Hall-of-Famer, he’s at the tail end of his career. Even after a stretch of a week or so of allowing more goals than usual, Boston is still the 4th-best goaltending team in the NHL. That all adds up to the Bruins also taking care of business without needing overtime.

Carolina Hurricanes ML over Vegas Golden Knights & Under 6.5 (+195)

We were able to get our NHL parlay picks started with two very reasonable plays thanks to our final leg being a combination prop that provides fantastic plus-money odds. This is a matchup that was very nearly last year’s Stanley Cup Final. It may still be a preview for this year’s, and we’re expecting a game in which goals are difficult to come by. The defending-champion Knights are allowing the 3rd-fewest goals per game, while the Hurricanes are yet again allowing the fewest shots per game. Each of their games last season also ended with 5 or fewer goals, so the under 6.5 part of this pick is the part we don’t expect to have to sweat out as much.

As for Carolina winning, being at home is huge for them. Like TD Garden in Boston, PNC Arena is a difficult road environment, which is why the ‘Canes are 8-2-3 at home this year. Two of those losses were very recent, and we’re trusting that they’ll be out to avenge them. Carolina is still one of the best overall rosters and arguably top defensive team in the NHL, so this is a prime buy-low spot. So, we’re closing out our NHL parlay picks with the Hurricanes to win while keeping the game to 6 or fewer total goals.
