I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. The NHL features a great 9-game slate tonight, which gets started an hour earlier than usual with the Philadelphia Flyers hosting the Vancouver Canucks. It also features a Western Conference Finals rematch between the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights to cap off the night. However, today’s NHL parlay picks aren’t focused on those two end caps. I’ve found value elsewhere without even needing a team to cover a puck line! So, let’s check out my favorite plays.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action!

NHL Parlay Picks (10/17)

Wild 3-way ML (+110)

Lightning 3-way ML (+145)

Kings ML (+100)

NHL Parlay odds: +894

Minnesota Wild 3-way ML over Montreal Canadiens (+110)

Directly following the opening puck drop in Philly is a game up in Montreal, as the Canadiens host the Minnesota Wild. Another way of describing the matchup is one of the Eastern Conference’s worst teams over the past few seasons hosting one of the top contenders in the Western Conference. When phrased that way, it makes things much clearer as to why the Wild are clear favorites even in Canada.

They’ll be coming over from Toronto where they lost to the Maple Leafs, but they’re also a Stanley Cup favorite. I also love what I saw out of the Wild in their season opener, as they completely shut out the Florida Panthers, who were in last year’s Stanley Cup Final. Minnesota goaltender Filip Gustavsson picked up right where he left off with 41 saves after finishing last year with the second-best save percentage among starting goalies. If I was to recommend any of these NHL parlay picks to escalate to a puck line, it’s this one. The Wild defeated the Canadiens by multiple goals in both their meetings last season, and I expect more of the same tonight.

Tampa Bay Lightning 3-way ML over Buffalo Sabres (+145)

My second play is another team on the road that I expect to take care of business. The Lightning are looking to make it back to the Stanley Cup Final after doing so for 3 straight seasons, while the Sabres are simply trying to make it back to the postseason. It’s going to be very difficult for Buffalo to do so with a 21-year-old goaltender – Devon Levi – who had just 7 career NHL games prior to this season.

The knock on Tampa Bay for this first portion of the season is that they’re starting the year without all-world goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Howeverf, they still have their core of Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman to lead the way. Along with Brandon Hagel, they should have enough offense to make up for what they’re lacking in net. Don’t be surprised if we see a high-scoring contest, but ultimately Tampa Bay should get the job done before heading back down south.

Los Angeles Kings ML over Winnipeg Jets (+100)

These picks have unintentionally had a theme of backing road teams, as I’m also looking at the Kings going up to Winnipeg and taking down the Jets. The schedule-makers didn’t do Los Angeles any favors having them open the season against the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes, two of the top three favorites to win the Stanley Cup entering the year.

Even so, the Kings forced Carolina to a shootout, while the Jets lost their opener to a Calgary Flames team who lost their way last season. It’s also worth noting that they Jets have kept themselves in playoff contention recently thanks to goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. However, after they reached an extension with him, it hasn’t looked great thus far. Winnipeg has allowed 9 goals over its first 2 games while LA continues to be stout defensively, allowing just 28 shots per game. Consider taking the under 6.5 goals, but to make it 3 plus-money legs in this parlay, I’m rolling with the money line.
