This is the second matchup in our Monday Night Football doubleheader. These are high-powered offenses that operate very differently, and I expect them both to be playoff teams this year. The Eagles are coming off a shootout with the Detroit Lions, while the Vikings trounced the Packers to kick off their season at home. I came away from Week 1 more impressed with Minnesota and it reflects in my picks. Aside from that, I feel more confident in what the Vikings offense is, whereas the Eagles still seem to be figuring out the pecking order. Three running backs scored for Philadelphia and DeVonta Smith didn’t catch a pass. Before I can lay money on a player prop, I just want to see more. Kirk Cousins over 36.5 passing attempts (-121, Caesars)
We have a limited sample size of Kirk Cousins in this Kevin O’Connell offense, but early returns are positive. He completed nearly 72% of his passes on 32 attempts. The Week 1 matchup against Green Bay never felt competitive and the Vikings had a 3-minute drive in the 4th quarter that consisted entirely of Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison rush attempts. I expect this game to be far more interesting offensively and Cousins will get to show us what this Vikings offense can look like. I contemplated going with over 24.5 competitions at +100, but this is the safer play for 1 unit.
KJ Osborn over 33.5 receiving yards (-115, DraftKings)
KJ Osborn was the forgotten man for Minnesota in Week 1, hauling in only 3 receptions on 4 targets for 14 yards. Justin Jefferson stole the show and the game was never within reach. I reviewed the Eagles defense in Week 1 against the Lions, and it stood out to me that Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Lions lined up in the slot in nearly 79% of his routes. The result? 12 targets, 8 receptions and 66 yards. Osborn lined up in the slot a team-high 51.7% of the time against the Packers.
I’m expecting Osborn to get a few more looks as I expect Cousins to throw the ball more (see above) and this line is low enough to grab my attention even though didn’t prove it in Week 1. It’s 0.5 units from me and play it up to 35.5.
Dalvin Cook longest reception over 10.5 yards (-125, DraftKings)
Dalvin Cook had a stellar Week 1 with 5 targets, 3 receptions and 18 yards. His longest reception went for 10 yards on the nose, but he actually had 33 yards after the catch (2nd on the team) because he was catching the ball behind the line of scrimmage with an average depth of target of -5. After seeing D’Andre Swift have a 25-yard reception against a suspect Eagle defense, I feel confident in this number at 10.5. It’s 1 unit from me and play it up to 11.5.
