Thursday Night Football has provided some great games already this season, but the teams doing battle in the first primetime slot of NFL Week 5 have only 2 wins in 8 games. That figure is between them, but the Commanders own both of those victories with the Bears coming in at 0-4 and ranking 32nd in the Pickswise NFL Power Rankings.
It’s not all bad news for the Bears, though, as they produced their best half of the season against Denver on Sunday only to blow a 21-point lead in the second half. The Commanders also picked up a loss in Week 4 but gave the unbeaten Eagles plenty to think about in a 34-31 setback.
Be sure to also check out our NFL Week 5 predictions as well as our Bears vs Commanders picks on the side and total, but now let’s take a look at my favorite anytime touchdown scorer picks for the game, where I’m targeting a wide receiver from each team.
Terry McLaurin, WR, WAS (+150 at FanDuel)
‘Scary’ Terry McLaurin has shown he has the talent to produce no matter who the Commanders throw out there at quarterback, and he should again find ways to get open against a burnable and injury-hit secondary if only Sam Howell can find the time to deliver the ball.
While running back Brian Robinson is the only Commander with more than one rushing or receiving TD this season, McLaurin is has a great chance to add to his 30-yard score against the Broncos — he also scored against the Eagles last week with a fumble recovery in the end zone after Robinson lost the ball on the goal line. Another option to consider is the Commanders’ defense at +600, as the Bears have been victimized by a defensive touchdown in 3 of their 4 games.

DJ Moore, WR, CHI (+225 at Caesars)
The Bears did at least appear to find their feet on offense last week, scoring 28 points after posting 20, 17 and 10 in their first 3 games, although admittedly it was against a Broncos defense that had given up 70 points the week before. Still, there is talent on the roster if QB Justin Fields can be kept upright long enough to find it and the top option for him is wide receiver DJ Moore.
Moore has had 2 huge games since joining the team as part of the trade that gave the Panthers the #1 pick in the draft. He had 104 receiving yards against the Buccaneers and has reached the end zone in each of the last 2 weeks, scoring against the Chiefs and again as part of a 131-yard day against Denver. Washington’s defensive line is impressive, but when the ball does come out the Commanders secondary can struggle — giving up 175 yards and 2 TDs to Philly’s AJ Brown and a further 78 yards to DeVonta Smith. Moore should also cause them problems.
