The final day of August is here, and we have a loaded slate of MLB action on deck. Today’s player prop article features a parlay with Nick Pivetta and Bryan Woo as our targets.

Let’s dive in!

Bryan Woo (SEA) Under 1.5 walks allowed + Nick Pivetta (BOS) 5+ strikeouts (-110)

Odds available at Caesars and DraftKings sportsbooks at time of publishing. Playable to -120 odds.

Bryan Woo has developed a reputation this season as a pitcher who has elite command of the strike zone. The talented right-hander has produced elite results for Seattle when healthy and an argument could be made that he is their 2nd or 3rd best option at the moment in their loaded starting rotation. Our focus on Woo today revolves around his plus command, as we are asking for 1 or 0 walks allowed in this matchup. Woo has made 16 starts this season with fewer than 2 walks allowed in 14 of those games. He did have a light workload at times this season, and that has changed of late with 24 or more batters faced in each of his last 5 starts. Still, when facing that many batters this season, he has still allowed fewer than 2 walks in 5 of his 6 starts. Both of the times he allowed 2 walks were against an opponent from Los Angeles, but today he gets another chance with this Angels lineup. Los Angeles does have batters with a patient approach, but Woo attacks the zone often, living in the zone 11.5% more than league average. Overall, Woo ranks 99th percentile among MLB pitchers with his 2.7% walk rate and has only surrendered 9 walks in 87.2 innings of work. With his ability to generate strikes with several different pitches, Woo should once again flash his command tonight.

The 2nd aspect of our parlay is backing Nick Pivetta to generate 5 or more strikeouts in an advantageous matchup against the Detroit Tigers. Detroit has the 9th highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching since the all-star break at 24.4%, and 15 of the last 19 right-handed starters they have faced have walked away with 5 or more strikeouts. Pivetta has a line of 5.5 on some books and 6.5 on others, but we are asking for just 5 in this spot today. The right-handed veteran has 5 or more punch outs in 14 of his 21 outings this season including 8 of his last 9 trips to the mound. He has flashed potential for double-digit strikeouts and flirted with that mark in his last outing against these Tigers, ending with 9 Ks in 5.1 innings. Pivetta has a 29.6% strikeout rate and can generate those 3rd strikes with any of his 5 offerings.
