There are 9 important baseball games happening around the country today, and it starts with the Diamondbacks and Nationals in Washington D.C. Luis Gil (NYY) to record the win (+135)

The American League Rookie of the Year race is a busy one. Between Luis Gil, Mason Miller, Colton Cowser and Wilyer Abreu, there is plenty of young talent that are worthy of the award. However, at the moment, one player stands out among the rest. Gil has been absolutely incredible for the Yankees this season and has been the perfect replacement for Gerrit Cole. In 14 starts, Gil owns a 2.02 ERA and a 2.74 xERA. His phenomenal 30.4% strikeout is due to his high-velocity fastball and disappearing changeup and slider. Gil’s 3-pitch combination has led him to having a .177 xBA with just a 33% hard-hit rate — both fantastic. Opposing Gil will be Cole Irvin, who has allowed 9 runs, 29 hits and 2 home runs in his last 17.2 innings. Plus, hitters have a .305 batting average, .286 xBA, and a 45% hard-hit rate against him in that span. Gil has pitched at least 5 innings in 12 straight starts and has recorded the win in 8 of his last 9 outings. Take the value and run with the AL Rookie of the Year favorite.

Gavin Stone (LAD) to record the win (-105)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

If you think the Dodgers win today but don’t want to pay the ridiculous money line or run line price, I have a solution for you. The Dodgers are starting Gavin Stone while the Rockies are countering with Ty Blach. There are a few major reasons for why the Dodgers should blow out the Rockies tonight. One, Blach ranks in the 3rd percentile in xBA and 10th percentile in xERA. He’s one of the most hittable pitchers in baseball and barely gets any swings and misses since he ranks in the 1st percentile in whiff rate and 2nd percentile in strikeout rate.

Second, Blach is a lefty. The Dodgers have been the best team in baseball against left-handed pitching this season by a wide margin. Los Angeles ranks 1st in OBP, SLG, OPS and wRC+ against left-handers in 2024. That means the Dodgers should rake against Blach, and all Stone will need to do is pitch at least 5 innings and leave the game with the Dodgers winning. That shouldn’t be an issue since Stone has completed 5 innings in 9 consecutive outings and has recorded the win in 6 of those starts.
