Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write up my plays for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!

I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season and this season is listed in my bio. On the year, I’ve recorded 183 wins and 134 losses for a gain of +31.4 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite plays for Sunday.

Lucas Giolito (CWS) over 4.5 K’s (-120)

Line available at BetMGM Sportsbook at time of publishing.

This number surpsied me. It opened at 5.5 last night and has dropped to 4.5 at playable odds. Count me in!

It’s no secret that Lucas Giolito has taken a big step back this season. He’s allowed just as many hits already this season than he did in all of his 2021 campaign. The good news for us is that his strikeout numbers have remained consistent. He’s averaging 1.1 strikeouts per inning and should be in line for 6 innings today.

Giolito is familiar with the lineup the Minnesota Twins are putting out. He has a career 19% K rate against the Twins hitters. That number doesn’t look to promising for us but the 6-9 hitters for the Twins all strikeout out at a rate of over 25% against right-handed pitching. With over 5 players circled in the Twins lineup that I feel Giolito has an edge over, this is a no brainer for me at 4.5.

Giolito reached 5 strikeouts in 5 of his 6 starts in August and will look to continue that momentum today at home where he’s over this line in 9 of 11 starts.

Erick Fedde (WSH) over 2.5 earned runs (-115)

Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

2022 has been a year to forget for Erick Fedde. He’s been plagued by injuries and has an ERA of 5.29. Today he’ll face off against the New York Mets in his 3rd start back from a month-long hiatus on the Injured List.

Fedde is fresh off allowing 6 earned runs and 9 hits to the woeful Oakland Athletics. Unlike the Athletics, the Mets are an opponent that right-handed pitchers do not want to see. In August, they hit .275 and had on-base percentage of .349; both ranking in the top 2 during that span. 6 of the last 10 right-handed starters have eclipsed this number against the Mets and Fedde is arguably the worst pitcher out of them all.

This will be the 3rd start against the Mets this season. In 6 innings, he allowed 8 earned runs and 13 hits. I expect this loaded Mets lineup to get to Fedde early and often.
