Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write my plays up for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!
I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season and this season is listed in my bio. On the year, I’ve recorded 80 wins and 65 losses for a gain of +7 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite plays for Friday.
Charlie Morton (ATL) over 4.5 hits allowed (-105)
Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.
We love early baseball! First pitch is set for 2:20 ET. Charlie Morton of the Atlanta Braves will take on the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field. The Cubs are putting out a lineup that features 7 right-handed bats. This is unusual since Morton throws right-handed, but he has allowed right-handed hitters to hit .260 against him this season.
The Cubs have found success hitting righties at home recently. They have recorded at least 5 hits versus right-handed starters in 8 of their last 10, including against perennial Cy Young winner Joe Musgrove. The Cubs are coming off a tough series facing Musgrove and Yu Darvish, so it will get a little easier today against Morton.
Morton has allowed at least 5 hits in 7 of 12 starts and 4 of 5 on the road. He struggles in general away from Atlanta. He ERA jumps up to 6.89 and well over 4 in day games. His outs line is set at 17.5, so we should see plenty of work from Morton. I have the Cubbies registering at least 6 hits at the expense of the 38-year old.
