Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write my plays up for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!
I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season is listed in my bio. On the year, I recorded 150 wins and 107 losses for a gain of +31 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite plays for Friday.
Alex Manoah (TOR) over 4.5 hits allowed (-126)
Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.
Manoah is one of the games young bright stars. He holds a sub 2 ERA and has a record of 5-1. Manoah is primed for at least 5 innings tonight and that should be plenty of time for the Los Angeles Angels offense that features MVP favorite Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and lefty Jared Walsh to record at least 5 hits against the 24 year-old. Fingers crossed that Ohtani plays tonight since he is dealing with a back injury after pitching last night.
Manoah has allowed at least 5 hits in his last 3 road starts where his ERA climbs up to 1.96 compared to 1.33 at home.
This Angels offense is capable of putting up runs in a hurry and could lead to Manoah getting into early trouble. I have Manoah projected at 5.2 innings pitched with 6 hits allowed.

Jon Gray (TEX) under 4.5 hits allowed (-108)
Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
We’re getting a great price here on FanDuel. On DraftKings and Caesers this is priced at -140.
Gray has the best possible matchup. The Oakland Athletics are hitting below .200 in the month of May against right-handed pitching. Gray has pitched against some tough competition to start the season. In his last 4 starts, he’s faced off against the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angles, and Houston Astros. A soft matchup here against the Athletics is just what Gray needs.
Gray is under this line 3 of 5 road games this season and I’m predicting we get a solid 5 to 6 innings from Gray.

Justin Verlander (HOU) under 1.5 earned runs (+120)
Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
These low earned-run lines can be a scary bet. A pitcher can pitch a gem of a game for 6+ innings and then get into a jam and have a reliever blow it up. On Wednesday, we almost witnessed that with Yu Darvish. Nonetheless, we’re backing the 39-year old Justin Verlander in his third start against the Seattle Mariners this season.
Verlander has not missed a beat since missing all of 2021. He leads the majors in ERA at 1.12 and is tied for the league lead in wins with 6. From an earned runs standpoint, Verlander has allowed 7 earned runs across 51 innings — absolute dominance.
Facing off against an opponent 3 times this early in the season is usually not a great sign for a pitcher but we’re talking about the AL CY Young betting favorite who is riding a 19-inning scoreless streak.
