Yesterday was a wild day in Major League Baseball. The White Sox beat the Yankees by 10, the Red Sox walked off the Rangers in Boston, and Chris Sale and Blake Snell had the pitching duel of the century. There’s plenty of action again today, and I found my 2 best MLB player prop bets to lock in before the games start. Let’s break them down, while you can also find our MLB picks for all of today’s big games.
Kutter Crawford (BOS) Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-135)
Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
Kutter Crawford had a fantastic start to the season. He had a 0.66 ERA after his first 5 starts and went on to post a 1.65 ERA in the month of April. However, he started to go downhill pretty quickly. Crawford had a 5.14 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP in May and followed it up with a 4.44 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in June. He went into the all-star break allowing just 1 earned run in his final 3 starts and appeared to be improving, but the break ruined all his momentum. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 10.61 ERA with a 1.66 WHIP in 4 starts in the second half of the season. He allowed a .313 batting average with a ridiculous 13 barrels in those 4 outings. That has led to him allowing 5 or more earned runs in all 4 of his recent starts. Plus, he faced the Rangers in Texas earlier this month and was hit for 5 runs, 6 hits and 4 home runs in 5.1 innings. With a picture-perfect weather day in Boston, the ball should be flying and Crawford should get shelled.

Paul Blackburn (NYM) Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-140)
Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
It’s a revenge spot in New York tonight. The Mets are starting Paul Blackburn against his former team for the first time in his career. Blackburn had been a part of the Athletics organization since 2017 and earned an All-Star nomination in 2022, but the A’s parted with the starter at the trade deadline. He was dealt to the Mets and has been fantastic since arriving in New York. Blackburn has surrendered just 2 earned runs and 11 hits along with 12 strikeouts in 12 innings since joining the Mets rotation. Tonight will be his first time pitching in Citi Field as a Met and it comes against the A’s. Not only do I love this spot since Blackburn will be out to prove himself against his former team, but also because the A’s have struggled at the plate recently. Oakland ranks 26th in batting average, 24th in OPS and 22nd in wRC+ in the last 14 days. I like Blackburn’s chances of recording a 3rd straight quality start as a Met.
