MLB Sunday gets started early with a 12:05 pm ET start time in Toronto. The rest of the jam-packed slate gives bettors plenty of options as all 30 teams are in action. Let’s turn our attention to the Phillies-Pirates game as Cristopher Sanchez looks to build off his season-high 8 Ks. He headlines our top MLB player prop bet of the day.

Christopher Sanchez (Phillies) over 4.5 strikeouts (+130)

Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

If Christopher Sanchez is a name you’ve not heard of, stay tuned. This is the perfect time to back Sanchez. He’s coming off the best start of his season with 8 strikeouts in 7 innings, which were both season-highs. Sanchez isn’t exactly a strikeout pitcher as he ranks in the 48th percentile in K%, but his BB% is what separates him. He has allowed just 6 walks in more than 40 innings pitched. His low walk rate combined with his pitch count rising every start is a recipe for success against a Pirates team that has struck out at the 6th-highest rate against LHP this month.

Justin Verlander (Mets) under 2.5 earned runs (-145)

Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

When looking into this popular market, I make sure to check off two things: is this the pitcher’s first time seeing the opponent this season? And how has he fared recently? Well, Justin Verlander checks both of those boxes. After a shaky start to the season with his new team, Verlander has put together some efficient starts. He has held opponents under 3 runs in 4 of his last 5 games, including quality starts against the Dodgers and Padres.

Verlander will get the nod against the Washington Nationals, who don’t strike out often and swing early in the count. That can lead to Verlander going deep into this game, especially after a terrible start by Carlos Carrasco yesterday. Even with Verlander projected to see the 7th inning today, the Nationals don’t possess the greatest threat to him. They rank in the bottom half of the league in OBP% against RHP in July and 7th-worst this season. He’ll look to put on another show in front of the Mets faithful as he has stayed under this line in 6 of 8 starts at home and 10 of 15 this season.
