Don’t look now but the Orioles have taken first place in the AL East from the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays, currently on a 5-game skid, have struggled at the plate. Against RHP in July, they are striking out at the 7th-highest rate and hitting below .220 — 3rd-lowest in baseball during that span. They were just diced up by veteran Kyle Gibson who, like Bradish, will be seeing the Rays for the second time this season.
Bradish met the Rays in June and was effective. He pitched 5 innings of 2-run baseball with 8 strikeouts. That started a streak of 4 of his last 5 games surpassing this line. The Orioles bullpen is taxed, too. Thankfully Kyle Gibson was able to give them 6 innings last night, but they’ve used a multitude of arms dating back to their series with the Texas Rangers earlier this week.
Bradish, in his second season in the big leagues, has shown much improvement from his rookie season and will be a big factor come playoff time. With the strides he has made in the last few games, we can feel confident backing him tonight.

Framber Valdez (Astros) under 5.5 hits allowed (-140)

Framber Valdez has his sights set on the AL CY Young award. He and Gerritt Cole seem to be neck and neck on most major sportsbooks to claim it, but Valdez has a great shot to take the lead tonight against the 27-72 Oakland Athletics.
It’s difficult to back this prop knowing Valdez is primed to go at least 7 innings tonight. But in the 10 games that Valdez has gone past the 6th inning this season, he has stayed under this line 6 times, including a complete-game shutout in May against Oakland, when he allowed just 4 hits.
The Athletics have been woeful in all categories this season including facing off against LHP. They’re hitting below .220 in the last 30 days with 6 of the last 9 left-handed starters staying under this total during that span.
