Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write up my plays for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!

I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season and this season is listed in my bio. On the year, I’ve recorded 185 wins and 135 losses for a gain of +32 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite plays for Wednesday.

Alex Cobb (SFG) over 2.5 earned runs (-115)

Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Alex Cobb and the San Francisco Giants will look to take their 2nd game of this 3-game series against division rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Cobb is extremely familiar with this Dodgers team. In 2 starts against the Dodgers, Cobb has allowed 7 earned runs in 12 innings pitched.

Pitching on the road has not been kind to Alex Cobb. He’s allowed at least 3 earned runs in 6 of 9 starts and has a 5.06 ERA. Cobb has allowed 58 hits in 48 innings pitched on the road compared to 56 hits in 22 more innings pitched at home.

Let’s shift to the Dodgers at home against right-handed pitching. In the last month, the Dodgers are hitting .294 and have an on-base percentage of .364; both rank 1st in baseball during that span. In their last 10 games at home started by an opposing right-hander, pitchers have allowed at least 3 runs in 9 of those games, not including John Brebbia who opened for the Giants last night for 1 inning.

This will be a daytime game and I expect balls to fly out of Dodgers stadium. A pivot to this prop is the Los Angeles Dodgers over 2.5 runs in the 1st 5 innings.

Jordan Montgomery (STL) over 17.5 outs (-120)

Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Jordan Montgomery has been the savior that the St. Louis Cardinals needed. Before the Cardinals traded for Montgomery from the New York Yankees, their starting rotation was missing a dominant lefty. Fellow lefty Jose Quintana was also acquired at the deadline by the Cardinals but has not been what the Cardinals envisioned. In 6 starts with the Cardinals, Montgomery has an ERA of 1.47 and opposing batters are hitting .211 off him. Tonight, he’ll face off against the worst team in baseball in terms of record-wise in the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals were held to 1 run last night against Jose Quintana who threw 5 innings of 5-hit baseball. The Nationals stacked 7 right-handed bats in their lineup which should be the same tonight. In Montgomery’s last start against the Chicago Cubs, the Cubs’ 1-9 hitters all batted right-handed. Montgomery went on to pitch 6 shutout innings while allowing 7 hits and 2 walks. He worked himself out of many jams, but I do not expect him to muster over 7 hits against this Nationals squad.

Montgomery has pitched at least 6 innings in 14 of 27 starts this season and in 3 of 6 starts with his new team. He’s averaging over 94 pitches in his last 5 starts which is 10 over his season average. The Cardinals have used 7 bullpen pitchers in the last 2 days and will lean on Montgomery to eat up some much-needed innings.
