This number seems too good to be true, but then you dive into Bryce Harper’s game log and see that he hasn’t recorded a hit in his last three games — it’s the perfect time to back him then! Harper and the Phillies’ lethal lineup will be facing off against veteran Rich Hill, whose leash is yet to be determined. He came out of the bullpen two starts ago after Yu Darvish failed to pitch into the 5th inning. He then started in his next appearance but threw only 53 pitches. What we can expect is Hill to see Harper at least twice tonight, which is good enough for me.
The lefty-lefty matchup may scare some bettors off, but Harper is an exception. He’s hitting .286 against LHP and an even better .324 in the last 30 days. The hitless streak doesn’t concern me for a batter like Harper, who is amongst the league’s best in hitting it to the opposite side of the field and, of course, hitting the ball into the stands. Right-handed hitters Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos will be hitting in front of Harper and will be sure to find the basepaths. Castellanos ranks in the top 5 in hits against LHP in the last month, while Turner is hitting .281 during that span. This Philadelphia offense is ready to explode after their disheartening series against the Brewers. Expect Harper to lead the way and extend the Phillies’ lead in the NL Wild Card standings.
