Corbin Carroll makes his Yankee Stadium debut on Friday night and will look to build on his 6-game hit streak. The sure-fire NL Rookie of the Year will be opposed by RHP Luke Weaver, who was acquired from waivers and has made one start with the Yankees. He pitched four innings of three-run baseball but a whopping seven strikeouts. His seven K’s came as a surprise as he ranked in the bottom 25% in K rate this season, dating back to his time with the Mariners and Reds. This is a prime spot for Carroll, who has already had success against Weaver dating back to his tenure with the Cincinnati Reds. Weaver faced off against the Diamondbacks earlier this summer and was hit hard. He allowed eight hits over four innings and punched out just one batter. The familiarity of Weaver for this sound offense should be a tremendous asset, especially for Carroll. Carroll recorded three at-bats against Weaver, which led to a single, a walk, and a two-run home run. It sounds like he sees Weaver well.
Besides having prior success against Weaver, Carroll is seeing the ball exceptionally well, especially against RHP. In September, Carroll is hitting .340 with 11 runs scored.
