The Seattle Mariners have it made with their rotation. They’ll be a tough out in the playoffs if they can make it with Luis Castillo, George Kirby and Logan Gilbert getting the ball. But let’s turn our attention to Logan Gilbert tonight on the road against the Kansas City Royals.
Gilbert is coming off an unreal start against the San Diego Padres where he allowed just 1 hit over 7 shutout innings. He punched out a season-high 12 batters to coast to his 10th win on the season. But it’s what he’s done on the road that has caught my eye. Gilbert has a 7-1 record in 12 games and an opponent batting average of .221. He was hit hard in Arizona in his last road game but allowed 2 runs on 9 hits. That pushed his hit rate to 9/12 on this prop and 16/23 this season.
This one won’t be easy. The Royals have been extremely impressive from the plate against RHP as of late, including smacking veteran Adam Wainwright for 9 hits while he managed to record just 3 outs. Gilbert and Wainwright are nowhere near the same level at the moment, but the offense is seeing the ball well from righties and can be a real test for Gilbert tonight. In the last 30 days, the Royals rank in the top 5 in batting average, K rate, and have walked the fewest during that span. With all that being said, they still rank in the bottom half in all those categories overall this season. Gilbert has impressed against some of the top offenses in the league, especially on the road. Trust him tonight in an important game for Seattle as they’re right in the thick of the Wild Card race.
