Jack Flaherty’s name has circled the trade rumors all season long. As one of the best #2 pitchers in baseball, the Detroit Tigers find themselves below .500 and could get a nice haul for Flaherty from a contender that needs to bolster their rotation come playoff time – even with Flaherty on a 1-year deal. Flaherty is no stranger to trade talks come this time.
Last season, the St. Louis Cardinals dealt Flaherty to the Baltimore Orioles. If the Tigers are serious about trading Flaherty before tomorrow’s deadline, it’d be in the team’s best interest to limit him in some way tonight.
Aside from trade talk, this will be the fourth time Flaherty meets up with the Cleveland Guardians this season – the same Guardians team that ranks in the top five in baseball in K% against RHP. To Flaherty’s credit, he’s in a nice groove at the moment, surpassing at least six strikeouts in eight of his last 10 starts, but expect the Guardians lineup to deliver against Flaherty, with this being the third matchup in July alone.
