Monday baseball gets action started earlier than usual with the Detroit Tigers once again playing a day game. This time they’ll start a series with the San Francisco Giants. This is an extremely important start for Logan Allen’s confidence. He was sent down to the minor leagues and made two starts before being called back up for a start against the Pirates in which he was dominate in five innings. He allowed just one 1 hit and struck out 8 batters. Do I think he replicates that performance against a Royals team that’s already seen him? No. But I trust the southpaw to limit the damage.
Allen’s numbers are a bit skewed with low pitch count games. In his last 5 starts, he’s averaging just 85 pitches per outing. The Guardians are in a tough spot with the bullpen being a bit taxed. They used 7 arms in an extra inning loss to the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday. We most likely will see Allen get pushed here to 6 innings but the Royals have registered just 3 runs on 3 of the last 10 left-handed starters they’ve faced.
Look for Allen to bring that momentum from his outing against the Pirates into today’s game against the 28-73 Royals. He’s stayed under this line in 9 of 13 starts and 5 of 7 when pitching into the 6th inning.
