When you see a pitcher like Zac Gallen on the slate, your eyes immediately jump toward that game. Gallen was money for us last season as he went on a run after the All-Star break. He went 6 consecutive games without allowing a run and already had a mini-run this season. After a 4-game stretch without allowing a run, Gallen was tagged for 3 in his last start against the Texas Rangers on the road. Tonight, Gallen gets the Miami Marlins at home where he has yet to allow a run and has surpassed 7 strikeouts in all 3 starts. This early in the season, MLB player prop bettors should take home and away splits with a grain of salt. But, Gallen was doing this last season. He went over the 7-strikeout mark in 8 of 15 home starts and 6 of his last 7 to close out the year.
Facing an offense for the 2nd time in less than a month usually gives the batter the advantage, but I’ll ride with Gallen. He faces off against a Marlins offense that is hitting at a bottom 10 rate against right-handed pitching. More importantly, they strike out at the 8th highest rate. He has the advantage over most of these hitters in a small sample size. He’s struck out the projected Marlins lineup 10 times in 36 plate appearances. The lineup isn’t in tack, but he’ll most likely see 4 left-handed hitters who he dominates with a 40% K rate.
Don’t be surprised if Gallen is leading the NL CY Young Award race tomorrow with Spencer Strider struggling in his last start. Expect a dominate performance at home against his former team.
