After a full 15 game slate last night, we get to breathe a little bit. MLB Friday presents us with a 5-game slate and the first game starting at 6:40 E.T. in Miami. Aces like Jacob DeGrom, Aaron Nola, Zac Gallen, and Corbin Burnes weren’t effective in their 1st starts of the season, but we have a multitude of quality starting pitchers dueling off tonight. After an up-and-down first year in Seattle, Robbie Ray is looking to prove the doubters wrong and return to his Cy Young form from 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays. Ray registered a 3.71 ERA last season but was much more dominant at home. In front of the Seattle faithful, Ray pitched to a 3.02 ERA and held batters to a .208 batting average. It surely won’t be easy tonight against a Cleveland Guardians team that was 1 win away from the ALCS last season.
As a 31-year-old pitcher, Ray had his battles with these Cleveland Guardians hitters. The lineup has yet to be released, but we can project at least 7-8 of the hitters will be the same as on Opening Day. In 56 career at-bats against Ray, hitters have 14 total hits with 5 of them coming from Amed Rosario alone. Rosario will be hitting in front of Jose Ramirez and Josh Bell. Just like any other under, we’ll be holding our breaths when he faces the top of the order.
Last season, Ray held teams under 3 runs in 18 of 33 starts and more importantly, 14 of 19 at home. This line is juiced for a reason, but we’re not shying away from it. Expect a masterclass performance from one of the best in the game and start the season 1-0 on MLB player prop bets for us.
