Week 2 of the NFL season is here, and we are in for a treat on Sunday night after a long afternoon of non-stop football. The opening Sunday night game produced a 40-0 beatdown by the Dallas Cowboys against the New York Giants and this week’s nightcap is an all-AFC East meeting between the exciting Miami Dolphins and the football behemoth of the New England Patriots. The Dolphins won a wild game against the Chargers in Week 1, while the Patriots made the Philadelphia Eagles work fairly hard for their opening win.

Here are my favorite touchdown scorer bets for the game. Be sure to also check out our full NFL Week 2 predictions.

Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins (+165 at Caesars)

If we know one thing about Patriots head coach Bill Belichick (and we know quite a lot after all this time!), it’s that his favorite move is to try to take away an opposing team’s best weapon. This week that should mean employing as many resources as he can to guard Tyreek Hill after the Dolphins WR ran free for 215 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns against the Chargers in Week 1.

The bad news with that plan is that Miami is blessed with 2 elite receivers and Jaylen Waddle should benefit from any lack of attention he gets from the Patriots’ defense. Waddle had 78 yards from only 4 catches on 5 targets last week, but he had 1,356 receiving yards and 8 TDs last season and could get off the mark for this year on SNF.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB, New England Patriots (+270 at DraftKings)

Something else that Belichick loves is to pound the ball using old-school running backs, and if the Patriots do what the Giants failed to do last Sunday night and reach the end zone, it could be a first score in his new jersey for former Dallas RB Ezekiel Elliott. Zeke was more involved in his Patriots debut than some might have expected given Rhamondre Stevenson’s role as lead back, but he was handed the rock 7 times compared to Stevenson’s 12 and actually led the team in rushing yards, albeit with only 29.

Three of the Chargers’ TDs against Miami last week were rushing scores (2 by RBs Austin Ekeler and Joshua Kelley and 1 by QB Justin Herbert) and if the Pats are able to get the ball close to the goal-line it would be no surprise to see Belichick asking Zeke to carry it into the end zone. Elliott’s anytime TD scorer odds are as low as +130 at BetMGM, so he has value at more than twice the price at DraftKings.
